Quick Hits
Gabriel Arias was placed on the IL with a sprained ankle. Brayan Rocchio was recalled to take his spot on the roster.
Chadwick Tromp was placed on the IL with a back injury. The Orioles called up Jacob Stallings to replace him on the roster.
Michael Kopech was placed on the IL with a knee injury. The move is retroactive to June 28. The hope is he will be back after the All-Star Break.
Christian Koss was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. The Giants called up Luis Matos to take his spot on the roster. Reports are that the Giants may consider Rafael Devers as an option at third base with Matt Chapman, Casey Schmitt, and Koss on the IL.
Willson Contreras left Tuesday’s game after being hit with a pitch.
X-rays were negative so it appears he has avoided serious injury. Consider him day-to-day at this time.
Various News and Notes
Grant Holmes threw six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out 10 in the no-decision versus the Angels on Tuesday.
Holmes was fantastic in this one, getting a 64% whiff rate on the slider and a 33% CSW on the fastball. He was a bit unlucky that Tyler Anderson pitched well opposite of him and the Braves were unable to score any runs to support him. The command and control have been an issue for Holmes this year and he did have back-to-back walks in the fourth inning, but he was able to get himself out of it. If he can tighten the control and command a bit, he could have a massive upside.
Edward Cabrera threw seven scoreless innings versus the Twins, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out six in the victory on Tuesday.
Cabrera was great, throwing four pitches 19% of the time or more and getting 33% whiff rates or better on three of them including a 55% whiff rate on the slider. The stuff has never been in question for Cabrera, but he has struggled with health and the ability to control and command pitches has been. The control can still be an issue at times, but his health has been there so far and he should be rostered in all formats as long as he is healthy.
Jake McCarthy went 1-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Giants.
McCarthy was a popular sleeper heading into the season, but struggled mightily to start the year and was sent down. Since returning from the IL, he already has two home runs and a stolen base. There is a lot of upside in his bat if he is making contact and so far he is starting off well.
Gary Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a home run in the loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.
Sanchez is playing a ton with Adley Rutschman on the IL. He has been extremely hot since his call up in mid June, hitting .352 with five home runs and 20 RBIs in 51 at bats. He is getting lucky and will slow down, but until he does, he should be rostered in just about every format.

Big test for Brandon Walter in Colorado. He has pitched well but as we all know Colorado is extremely tough on pitchers.
