Roto Riteup: July 19, 2023

Yesterday was a crazy day of baseball:

On the Agenda:

  1. Closer Chaos
  2. Quick Hits
  3. Various News and Notes
  4. Streaming Pitchers

Closer Chaos

Kevin Ginkle had a perfect inning versus the Braves on Tuesday to register the save for the Diamondbacks. Ginkle has quietly been very good this season for the Diamondbacks, posting the best walk rate of his career and limiting home runs. He could be in line for more saves down the stretch if Scott McGough continues to struggle and the Diamondbacks don’t trade for someone at the deadline.

Quick Hits

Jake Marisnick left Tuesday’s game with calf tightness. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Luke Weaver left Tuesday’s game versus the Giants after being hit with a comebacker.

Consider him day-to-day for now, but this sounds like it could end him up on the IL.

LaMonte Wade Jr. left Tuesday’s game with a hamstring cramp. This doesn’t sound serious, so consider him day-to-day for now.

TJ Friedl left Tuesday’s game versus the Giants after making this tremndous play:

There was no update following the game. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Various News and Notes
Dairon Blanco went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, and a stolen base in the victory over the Tigers on Tuesday.

Blanco had the best game of his career, but he has struggled prior to last night. He has been a cheap source of stolen bases, stealing seven bases in just 52 plate appearances. However, until he earns more regular playing time, it is hard to use him in anything but the deepest of leagues.

Mickey Moniak went 3-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Yankees on Tuesday.

Moniak has been fantastic for the Angels this season, hitting .336/.369/.645 with 13 home runs in 160 plate appearances. However, he has been extremely lucky with a .435 BABIP and a high home run to fly ball rate. He makes below average contact in the zone, swings outside the zone too much and has a 20% swinging strike rate. This is a massive sell high if you can.

Wilmer Flores went 5-for-9 with three home runs between the resumed game from yesterday and the regularly scheduled game on Tuesday.

Flores has been great for the Giants, hitting .301/.355/.549 with 12 home runs in 228 plate appearances. Unfortunately, he is on the wrong side of a platoon in San Francisco, but he could figure into more playing time if guys like Brandon Crawford and LaMonte Wade Jr. continue to deal with injuries.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Christopher Sánchez vs MIL

Milwaukee has been one of the worst teams in baseball versus lefties and Sanchez has pitched well for the Phillies.

High Risk Options: Graham Ashcraft vs SF, Patrick Corbin at CHC, Ross Stripling at CIN.

Pitcher for Tomorrow:  Michael Lorenzen at KC

Lorenzen has pitched well versus bad teams so while this feels like a trap, I am rolling with it.

High Risk Options: Jose Quintana vs CHW

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

Put some respect on Ginkel’s last name.
