Roto Riteup: August 5, 2013

Welcome to another week of the Roto Riteup, which can help you pass the time before the return of Breaking Bad.

On today’s agenda:
1. BioGenesis suspensions announced today
2. David Wright’s out a month
3. Wil Myers progress report

BioGenesis suspensions announced today
MLB is expected to announce suspensions around Noon ET today, and since there are no glorious day games, owners may have a chance to update their weekly lineups after bans are officially cried about the town.

David Wright’s out a month
As expected, Wright’s hamstring injury turned out to be pretty serious, and the third baseman will now miss the next 3-5 weeks. Wright has been his old self for the Mets this year, slapping together a .309 average, .391 OBP, and 16 homers before succumbing to injury. Wright should be back in mid-September, but if there’s even a whiff of a setback, the Mets will likely keep their slugger on the sideline for the rest of the 2013 campaign.

Filling in for Wright will be a variety of folks, but I’m most excited to see Josh Satin get extended playing time. Satin was called up when Ike Davis and Lucas Duda were both off the active roster, and he’s performed well in part due to a BABIP over .400. Satin is an uber-patient hitter who has walked over 17% of the time this year, and he brings a solid contact rate to go right along with it. Those two skills combined means he’s a fun guy to have around in OBP leagues. Satin isn’t a third baseman by trade, but throwing him over there and seeing what’s up isn’t going to keep the Mets out of the playoffs or anything, so they’ll use him at the hot corner and see what they have in his bat.

Wil Myers progress report
After smashing and pimping his eighth homer yesterday, Myers has raised batting line to .329/.379/.533 in his young career. Myers line is supported by a BABIP that we can presume is at least 30 points higher than his true talent, but he’s already flashing great pop (and a little speed), and the strikeouts are not yet an issue. Myers is exciting, even though he’ll likely go at least two rounds too early next year. Get excited.
