Roto Riteup: August 29, 2013

Today’s Roto Riteup is what is it, and wishes you wouldn’t try to change it.

On today’s agenda:
1. Phil Hughes could be done as a Yankees’ starter
2. Brett Anderson gets activated
3. Dan Uggla returns
4. Fun with arbitrary endpoints

Phil Hughes could be done as a Yankees’ starter
After getting smacked around for yet another start, Hughes seems primed to be removed from the Yankees rotation. Hughes has an ERA around 5.00, and has failed to consistently put hitters away with two strikes, allowing far too many homers in the process. In his final year of club control, Hughes will enter free agency this offseason to a tepid market for his services, and he’s likely to receive a one year “make good” contract, hopefully with an NL team. I wouldn’t be afraid to take a chance on Hughes next year if he ends up in the right situation, but right now, he’s worth dropping.

Brett Anderson gets activated
Not having pitched since the end of April, Anderson’s return comes at the right time for the As. Oakland is in great position for the playoffs, and pitchers of Anderson’s caliber don’t usually come around as additions in late August. Anderson is supposedly going to be a reliever for the rest of the year, and Head-to-Head owners should be excited about a SP-eligible reliever who could rack up strikeouts.

Dan Uggla returns
After missing the last 15 days after undergoing LASIK eye surgery, Uggla has returned to the majors. Uggla had the chance to have two rehab games in Triple-A, and he struck out in four of his seven ABs, so there’s that. Uggla’s biceps are still beefy and his swing is still mighty, so the right-hander can still provide owners with dingers, but this surgery doesn’t mean you should trust him to hit for more contact than usual.

Fun with arbitrary endpoints

That was far from “fun” w/ arbitrary end points. More like depression induced by such or bummers based upon….and I don’t even own any of those players.
