Roto Riteup — August 25, 2014: Presented By DraftKings

I’m sorry to say you folks are stuck with me on today’s Roto Riteup. By my math, including tomorrow, it will be five straight days of me instead of Zach Sanders. If you were expecting Zach and see me, it would be hard to blame you for immediately closing this window.

Welcome back, Hanley Ramirez
The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Hanley prior to yesterday’s game against the New York Mets. Although he was held 0-for-4, the club and fantasy owners alike are happy to see him return. Hitting a for a .274/.363/.450 line in 410 plate appearances this season, Hanley should continue to be a productive shortstop for the remainder of the season.

No doubt Hanley is already owned in your league, however if you happen to own him consider grabbing Alex Guerrero as insurance. Or, to borrow a term from my colleagues in the fantasy football realm, handcuff Hanley and Guerrero. The Dodgers will most likely call up Guerrero once the rosters expand in a few days. The 27-year-old Cuban has primarily played second base in the minors however he has made appearances at shortstop, third base and left field. Look for the club to use him as a super utility guy, potentially even giving Hanley a break at shortstop. He is available in over 80% of CBS formats plus over 90% of both ESPN and Yahoo! leagues.

Xander Bogaerts to the seven-day disabled list
After being struck in the head by a pitch in Friday’s game, the Boston Red Sox have placed Bogaerts on the concussion DL. He showed some symptoms of a mild concussion and the decision was made to shelve him. Manager John Farrell told reporters Bogaerts will be inactive for at least seven days. Bogaerts has posted a rather disappointing .223/.293/.333 line in 485 PAs this season and I’d consider dropping him in redraft leagues. Still just 23, Bogaerts will hopefully make a full recovery and be ready for action for next season.

Angel Pagan should return today
Although he was never placed on the DL, Pagan has been dealing with calf tightness. He missed yesterday’s game but should be back in the lineup today. Currently sporting a .301/.341/.392 line in 329 PAs, Pagan has been a useful player when healthy. He’s also nabbed 12 bags and hitting from the top of the lineup has helped propel him to 42 runs scored in 77 games. Despite his productivity — albeit in limited playing time — Pagan is available in 40% of CBS and ESPN formats and 55% of Yahoo! leagues. He should be a good source of batting average, runs and perhaps even steals in his calf holds up.

The daily five
Starting pitcher: Jeff Samardzija — $9,200
The Shark gets to face the Houston Astros and their bottom third rating of 90 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers.

Starting pitcher: Jake Odorizzi — $8,500
Odorizzi will be up against a solid offense in Baltimore today but I like his 10.10 K/9 and 26.4% K%  to give him a nice amount of strikeouts today.

Infielder: Buster Posey — $4,300
Posey and the Giants are up against the southpaw Tyler Matzek today. Posey holds the platoon advantage and as a whole the Giants hold the 10th ranked wRC+ verses left-handed pitching.

Outfielder: Michael Morse — $4,300
Another Giants hitter who should have a big day against Matzek. Morse owns a 134 wRC+ against lefties this season and a 124 wRC+ for his career.

Other hitter: Kyle Seager — $4,600
Seager will have the platoon advantage over Miles Mikolas.

Remaining budget: $19,100
