Quick Hits
Hector Neris signed a contract to pitch for the Houston Astros. Neris will be a set up guy at best in Houston, but could be a source of holds down the stretch.
Dominic Smith signed a major league contract with the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. This is a great landing spot park-wise, but he will have to hit to keep a regular role.
Jake Fraley was placed on the IL with a knee sprain. With only five weeks left in the season, he is droppable in all formats.
Mickey Moniak left Thursday’s with an elbow issue. X-rays were negative so it appears he avoided serious injury. Consider him day-to-day at this time.
Ryan Mountcastle left Thursday’s game with a wrist issue. The Orioles described it as soreness following the game. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Various News and Notes
Spencer Torkelson went 1-for-3 with a home run in the loss to the Cubs on Thursday.
Make that the 5th home run of the season for Spencer Torkelson, a 2-run shot that puts Detroit on the scoreboard! #RepDetroit pic.twitter.com/BbqIbmMGBQ

Torkelson struggled early on this season before being demoted, but he has been fantastic since returning, hitting .466 with this home run, two doubles and a triple over his five games back. He has shown a better approach and is making really good contact. If he keeps this up, he will be a difference maker down the stretch.
Spencer Arrighetti threw six scoreless innings versus the Orioles, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out six in the victory over Thursday.

Arrighetti was fantastic in the outing, getting a 43% CSW on his curve and showing fantastic command and control. He has been up and down in the second half, but the huge difference from the first half has been the improved control by attacking the zone more. There is talent in the arm and if he can keep this approach, he could be very successful.
Osvaldo Bido threw five innings versus the Rays, allowing one run on two hits and three walks while striking out six in the victory on Thursday.

Bido has been surprisingly good this season with a 3.24 ERA and 51 strikeouts in his 50 innings. Most of his stuff isn’t overwhelming, but when he has his control in check, he can be pretty effective. He is mostly a streamer in good matchups and at home, but in deeper leagues, he should be rostered because while he has a bad matchup next week, he lines up for a fantastic two-start week the following week versus the Mariners and Tiger at home.
