Various news and notes

The Rangers are shaking up their schedule next week, moving Colby Lewis’ start to Wednesday and pushing Martin Perez’s outing to Saturday. Perez had Tommy John surgery a little over a year ago, and even though the Rangers are on the outside pushing for a playoff berth, they’re willing to be cautious with their young left-handed investment.

While Eric Young could be an interesting stolen base option if he were given a chance to play in the majors, the Mets, who acquired him yesterday, seem content to keep in the in the minors until rosters expand in September. No fun.

Angel Pagan will start his rehab assignment today, and should return to the Giants lineup sometime later this week. San Francisco acquired Marlon Byrd just a couple days ago, and he should shift to a platoon role with Gregor Blanco once Pagan is healthy.

With Michael Pineda returning to the Yankees in a few days, the team has decided to try a six-man rotation once he is available. The extra starter will help Luis Severino, Pineda, and Masahiro Tanaka keep their load in check, while allowing New York to continue evaluating Severino as a big leaguer.

Trea Turner has been in the majors for two days, and he has not started in either game for the Nationals. I’m afraid that he may be stuck as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement the rest of the way instead of getting a chance to show off his stick.

Matt Moore did one hell of a thing yesterday, striking out 16 batters while starting in AAA. Moore has shown no problems in knocking down minor leaguers as he recovers from Tommy John; it’s big leaguers that are the issue.

Streaming Pitcher Options
If you enjoy streaming pitchers or play DFS, tune into the Roto Riteup for recommendations each and every day.

A pitcher for today: Kevin Gausman vs MIN (Mike Pelfrey)
Even with the Twinkies away from home in a hitter’s park, expect Gausman to cruise to a victory of Big Pelf.

A pitcher for tomorrow: Tom Koehler vs PIT (J.A. Happ)
Koehler should enjoy some home cookin’ against Happ and the Buccos.
