Quick Hits

Jarren Duran has been suspended two games for an interaction with fans in which he used a slur. He will be eligible to return on Wednesday.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. left Monday’s with an elbow injury. X-rays were negative so it appears he avoided serious injury. Consider him day-to-day for now.

James Paxton was placed on the Il with a calf strain. There is no timetable for his return.

The Rockies placed Kris Bryant on the IL with a back strain. There is no timetable for his return.

Logan O’Hoppe left Monday’s game with a knee issue. Consider day-to-day for now.

Byron Buxton left Monday’s game with a hip issue. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes
Jhonkesy Noel went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the victory over the Cubs on Monday.

Noel hasn’t been given everyday playing time since his call up, but he does have eight home runs with a .250 average in his 87 plate appearances. Power has never been in question for Noel, but he struggles with strikeouts because of his overly aggressive approach. He is striking out at a 30% rate because of his almost 50% o-swing and a 16% swinging strike rate. He actually makes good in zone contact, but until he has a better understanding of the strike zone, he will struggle to keep a regular role.

Bowden Francis threw seven innings versus the Angels, allowing one earned run on one hit and no walks while striking out eight in the victory on Monday.

Francis was fantastic, pounding the zone with his fastball while getting a 30% on the pitch. Francis had some hype in draft season, but struggled with command before being demoted. He doesn’t have overwhelming stuff, so he relies on good command and control. If he can continue to exhibit this command, then he could be valuable down the stretch.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: None

Some decent high risk options, but none I feel great about.

High Risk Options: Javier Assad at CLE, Trevor Rogers vs WAS, Taijuan Walker at MIA, Luis Ortiz at SD, Jonathan Connon vs NYY, Carson Fulmer vs TOR.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: David Peterson vs OAK

Peterson has pitched well lately and gets a bad A’s offense at home.

High Risk Options: Dean Kremer vs WAS, Martin Perez vs PIT, Alex Cobb vs CHC, DJ Herz at BAL, Mitch Spence at NYM, Granny Holmes at SF.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
