Quick Hits

Willson Contreras was placed on the IL with a knee sprain. There is no timetable for his return.

Dylan Carlson was removed from Thursday’s game with a sore wrist. He is expected to undergo further testing on Friday. Consider him day-to-day as we await more information.

Josh Harrison left Thursday’s game with a quad strain. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Yu Darvish left his start on Thursday with back tightness. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Corey Dickerson left Thursday’s game with back tightness. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes

Brando Nimmo went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Nationals in the first game of the double header on Thursday.

He would later go 0-for-4 in the second game of the double header. Nimmo has had a pretty decent triple slash this season, hitting .286/.411/.405 but has struggled to show much power or speed which has been disappointing. Nimmo does lead off against righties for the Mets which should lead to some decent runs scored, but until he shows a bit more power, he doesn’t have a ton of value outside of deep OBP leagues.

Ranger Suarez threw 4.1 innings versus the Dodgers, allowing one run on three hits and a walk in the no-decision.

Suarez also went 1-for-1 at the plate which inspired this dance by my friend Ellen Adair:

Suarez was able to throw 82 pitches in the outing which is encouraging that he will soon be able to go deeper into games and start qualifying for wins. He has four usable pitches and good command and is worth picking up in deeper mixed leagues because it seems he has a rotation spot locked up.

Marco Gonzales threw a complete game versus the Rangers, allowing just one run on two hits and a walk while striking out nine in the victory.

Gonzales has been fantastic in the second half, throwing 29.1 innings with a 1.84 ERA, a .99 WHIP and 25 strikeouts. He is somehow still available in about 50% of CBS leagues and should be picked up anywhere he is still on the wire.

DJ Stewart went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the loss to the Tigers on Thursday.

Stewart is getting a little more playing time because of injuries to the Orioles and has now popped three bombs in the last two games. Stewart was a trendy sleeper coming into the season, but has been derailed by injury and a high strikeout rate. He is an all or nothing kind of player, but if he can drop the strikeouts a bit, he could be really valuable with his power and double digit walk rate.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: None

Lots of high risk options, but no one I am super thrilled to use.

High Risk Options: Brett Anderson at PIT, Jaime Barria vs HOU, Dane Dunning vs OAK, Adbert Alzolay at MIA.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: None

Just not risking it with thee options

High Risk Options: Zach Davies at MIA, Kyle Freeland at SF, Reid Detmers vs HOU, Bryse Whilson vs MIL.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

I’m surprised Anderson ins’t a good enough stream to warrant picking up. Anderson has a 3.54 ERA and 1.24 WHIP, the Pirates are awful and the Brewers are rolling on offense. Sure it doesn’t come with many K’s but that seems like an easy W with good ratios.
