Roto Riteup: August 1, 2012

The trade deadline is really what the Roto Riteup was made to handle. So, without further ado, here’s a look at the players dealt yesterday (and possibly the night before).

• I thought Hunter Pence would be a Pirate, but turns out he’ll be a Giant, instead. Moving to San Francisco is going to hurt Pence’s power numbers and drop his batting average, but he should be able to score some runs if guys like Pablo Sandoval and Buster Posey are hitting behind him (as I suspect they will). Pence could end up adjusting his approach to bring his batting average up while allowing his power to slip, giving fantasy owners the optimal result.

• Shane Victorino is also moving to the NL West, but he’ll be playing for the Dodgers. Victorino’s numbers shouldn’t change much, but his power numbers could slip just a tad.

• Ryan Dempster left Chicago, but he ended up landing in Texas with the Rangers. Dempster could have some trouble moving from the NL Central to the AL West, as having to make half his starts in Texas could prove seriously troublesome.

• Look for Casey McGehee to get serious playing time at third base for the Yankees after New York acquired him at the deadline. McGehee isn’t hitting particularly well this year, but he’s had to deal with poor park factors in Pittsburgh and will likely get a fair shake to prove he can still use the stick in NYC.

• Jonathan Broxton will be setting up Aroldis Chapman in Cincinnati, and it sounds as if Greg Holland will be given the first shot at saves in Kansas City.

• Travis Snider is now playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who will be giving Snider a chance to prove he’s an everyday player. Snider, believe it or not, is only 24 years old and has a career 94 wRC+ despite some pretty unspectacular stints in Toronto. Eno has more on him here.

• Brad Lincoln will now be setting up in Toronto, so be wary of homers if his 37% GB% continues.

• Eric Thames will be starting in left field for the Seattle Mariners, and Michael Barr has more on him here.

A Pitcher for Today: Josh Collmenter at LAD
Collmenter has been pretty solid in his recent starts — just ignore the last one — and getting him away from the home is a treat.

A Pitcher for Tomorrow: Mike Minor vs MIA
No LoMo, no Hanley, and no Stanton makes the Marlins lineup vulnerable to attack.

A Hitter for Today: Norichika Aoki vs HOU (Jordan Lyles)
Lyles has been struggling, and Aoki should be able to gather an XBH or two.
