Roto Riteup: April 8, 2024

Looking forward to my Major League tryout.

On the Agenda:

  1. Closer Chaos
  2. Quick Hits
  3. Various News and Notes
  4. Streaming Pitchers

Closer Chaos

James McArthur threw a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out two to get the save versus the White Sox on Sunday. Will Smith has struggled recently and it looks like there may be a changing of the guard in Kansas City. McArthur should be picked up in all save leagues.

Quick Hits

Spencer Strider was placed on the IL with an elbow strain. A bad year for injuries just got even worse as the #1 pitcher in fantasy seems headed for Tommy John surgery. You have to hold onto him for now, but I expect most people will be dropping him in the near future.

Geraldo Perdomo was placed on the IL with a knee injury. Perdomo is expected to miss at least a month with a meniscus tear. Blaze Alexander is expected to take his spot at shortstop and was the most picked up player in NFBC leagues this weekend, but he profiles mostly as an accumulator rather than a real fantasy difference maker.

Various News and Notes

Ronel Blanco threw six scoreless innings versus the Rangers, allowing one hit and four walks while striking out four in the victory on Sunday Night.

Blanco carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning in the start after throwing a no-hitter. Blanco has cemented himself into the rotation for now and should be rostered in all formats as his changeup has been unhittable this season.

MJ Melendez went 1-for-3 with a home run in the victory over the White Sox on Sunday.

Melendez is on fire right now, hitting three home runs in his last four games. He still has catcher eligibility in Yahoo leagues, but even in leagues where he is just outfield only, he is worth gambling on as a power bat with some speed hitting in the middle of an improved lineup. Also, this was beautiful:

MacKenzie Gore threw 5.2 innings versus the Phillies allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six in the victory on Sunday.

Gore has looked pretty good this season, but does struggle with command and control at times. There is a ton of strikeout upside with Gore and he has a nice schedule coming up, but there is risk when he doesn’t have the feel of certain pitches.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Spencer Turnbull at STL

Turnbull looked good in his first start of the season and get a beat up Cardinals lineup in a good park.

High Risk Options:  Graham Ashcraft vs MIL, Javier Assad at SD, Tyler Anderson vs TB, Trevor Williams at SF.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Patrick Sandoval at TB

After a rough first start, Sandoval rebounded nicely in his second start of the season and has a decent matchup in a good park.

High Risk Options: Martin Perez vs DET.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
