Quick Hits
Juan Soto was placed on the 10-Day IL with a calf strain. It appeared at first Soto might be able to avoid the IL as he hurt the calf a few days ago and the Mets didn’t put him straight onto the IL, but it did not respond as quickly as expected. The hope is he will return fairly quickly. Ronny Mauricio was recalled to take Soto’s spot on the rosters.
Matthew Boyd was placed on the IL with a bicep strain. This came out of nowhere as Boyd was great in his last start. There is no timetable for his return at this time. Javier Assad was recalled to take his spot on the roster and Colin Rea is expected to take his spot in the rotation for the time being.
Austin Hays left Monday’s game with a hamstring injury.
Hays is expected to go on the IL with the injury.
Max Scherzer left Monday’s start with a forearm issue.
Scherzer stated that he doesn’t expect to miss time with the injury. Consider him day-to-day at this time.
Various News and Notes
Jordan Walker went 2-for-5 with a home run in the loss to the Nationals.
Walker has been extremely hot to start the season, hitting .314/.385/.629 with three home runs and a stolen base. Walker had reportedly reworked his swing in the offseason, but in spite of not looking great in spring training, he looks like the top prospect that he once was. He still isn’t making a ton of in-zone contact and has been super aggressive in the zone, so there is a chance this is nothing more than just a hot streak, but it’s one you want to ride for now.
Dalton Rushing went 4-for-4 with two home runs in the victory over the Blue Jays on Monday.
Rushing has three home runs already this season in just ten plate appearances. However, he just doesn’t play enough to be fantasy viable because of being behind Will Smith and with Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani blocking off first base and DH.
José Soriano threw eight innings versus the Braves on Monday, allowing just one run on three hits and no walks while striking out 10 in the victory.
Soriano was fantastic, getting a 31% whiff rate on his pitches. He was also mixing very well, throwing all five of his pitches at least 11% of the time. Prior to this game, I felt like we were seeing an improved pitcher, but not one taking a massive step forward. Now I am wondering if we are finally seeing the breakout. His hard hit percentage is down tremendously and while he can still allow a lot of contact, he is getting whiffs like we haven’t seen before with him. Maybe he turns back into a pumpkin, but until he does, you need to keep rolling with him.

It’s such a shame that Rushing is blocked, but that kid is immensely talented.
