Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested.

Closer Chaos

Trevor Megill fired a perfect inning versus the Pirates to lock down his first save of the season. Joel Payamps entered the game in the eighth inning which is interesting as it appeared Payamps had grabbed the closer job. It appears the job may be more fluid than it may first look like.

Hector Neris threw a scoreless ninth inning to register the save in the victory over the Astros on Thursday. Neris did walk two in the outing before closing the door. He now has three saves in his last three outings and while he hasn;t looked great doing it, he appears to be the main guy in Chicago for now.

Quick Hits

Bowden Francis was placed on the IL with a forearm issue. There is no timetable for his return.

Alec Marsh was placed on the IL with an elbow contusion. There is no timetable for his return.

J.P. Crawford was placed on the I with an oblique injury. Typically players with oblique strains miss about 4-to-6 weeks.

Zack Gelof was placed on the Il with an oblique strain. He is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks. Darell Hernaiz was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Various News and Notes

Joey Bart went 1-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Brewers on Thursday.

Bart has been great since arriving, hitting .304/.429/.739 with three home runs. Bart is a former top prospect that struggled in limited time with the Giants at the Major League level. One of the biggest issues for Bart in the past was his inability to hit breaking pitches in the Majors, but he has improved drastically in that regard so far this year. With Henry Davis struggling, Bart could cement himself in a regular role in Pittsburgh.

Pete Crow-Armstrong went 1-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Astros on Thursday.

Armstrong was called up to replace Cody Bellinger on the roster after he broke a couple of ribs. Armstrong is a top tier prospect, but he has struggled with consistent contact in the minors. There is some pop, a fair amount of speed and great defense in the profile, but if he can’t make more consistent contact than he has shown in the Majors and upper levels of the minors, he will struggle to get consistent playing time.

Hunter Goodman went 1-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Padres on Thursday.

The power has never been in question for Goodman, who has always put up amazing ISO numbers in the minors, but he has struggled to keep the contact rates at a manageable level. With the Rockies heading to Mexico City this week, he is an interesting streamer, but outside of that and at home, I don’t know that I would trust him.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Trevor Williams at MIA

Williams has pitched well and gets a good matchup in a great park.

High Risk Options: Reese Olson vs KC, Patrick Sandoval vs MIN.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Mitchell Parker at MIA

Parker has been great in his first few starts and now gets a bad Miami offense in a good park.

High Risk Options: Martin Perez at SF, Chris Paddack at LAA, Michael Lorenzen vs CIN, JP Sears at BAL, Jose Soriano vs MIN, Cole Irvin vs OAK.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
