What you’ll find in the above link is a rough and highly flawed first draft of my 2016 rankings. Some notes on the usefulness of these rankings…

• I have not had an opportunity to analyze as many players as I would like. Further analysis may change my rankings. For example, since creating this document, I’ve grown to like Billy Burns more than Billy Hamilton.
• I was commissioned to create these for another site in early December. Since then, the Winter Meetings and a flurry of trades and signings have occurred. These are not reflected in the rankings!
• Some players might be missing. I created the list by filtering for all players with 100 PA or some number of innings in 2015. Then I manually added relevant players who didn’t fit those parameters. I wasn’t particularly careful about getting everyone.
• The unranked players are those that my colleagues believed deserved a ranking. The most controversial player I didn’t rank was probably Greg Bird. I just don’t see how we can count on any kind of playing time with Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, and Carlos Beltran absorbing the 1B/DH slots.
• No analytical methodology was used to rank the players. That’s for the next round. These are old school gut picks.
