Acuna: Top X hitter you’d look to acquire in a 1 for 1 for acuna in a keep forever dynasty league

Justin Mason: I think I would still want a top 10 hitter.

Daniel: In a 15 team keeper, would you drop Suwinski to pickup Otto Lopez or Heliot Ramos or to stash Cade Povich?

Justin Mason: I would drop Suwinski for Lopez if I needed help now. I think Povich is the higher upside play so if I don’t need the immediate help, I would go with him

RAGBRAI: Seems like the last few trade deadlines have been quieter than past trade deadlines. Do you see the same this year? Are there many big names on the move this year?

Justin Mason: The addition of more playoff teams means that less teams may sell because it is easier to get in the playoffs. That being said, I think there are a number of interesting potential sellers. The Blue Jays could move guys like Bichette, Bassitt, and Kikuchi. The White Sox could move guys like Eloy, Pham, Fedde and Robert. Tampa Bay could move Civale or Littell. The Mets should move JD Martinez and Marte. The Cardinals should move Goldy, Lynn and Gibson

Why not Zoidberg?: Would you consider Swanson, Rafaela, Soler, Langford, Rizzo or Friedl as upgrades over J. Bell, O. Cruz, or Adell?

Justin Mason: I would take Swanson and Langford over Bell and Adell

Adenolith: What tier of hitter would you be looking for in exchange for Skenes?

Justin Mason: I would want a top 50 hitter in a redraft. Maybe even top 25.

Paulie Eff: Will Cade Povich be an impact SP right off the bat, or will so-so velo trip him up vs MLB hitters, whenever he gets called up?

Justin Mason: I think any pitcher in Baltimore can be impact considering the park and run support. If Povich can consistently go 5, there are a lot of wins to be had along with those strikeouts.

Moore or Less: Hey Justin, i picked up Moore in a shallow points league hoping the hot stretch would continue especially since he has 4 position eligibility. He then put up about 2 points on the week.  Is it safe to jump ship for a Friedl or Donovan?

Justin Mason: He is putting the ball on the ground too much. Most everything else is looking fine. Still makes a lot of contact and hits the ball hard. The launch angle is up over the last month so maybe we see some improvement soon?

Weep (for) the Mets: Do you see any value for Edwin Diaz left this year? The injury is obviously secondary to the role and skills

Justin Mason: I think that if he is healthy, he is the closer. Health is the major concern for me

Nuts?: Am I nuts for thinking about offering Arozarena for Kwan in a dynasty league? Im competing and could use the AVG. Or should I hold and hope on a rebound? Thanks

Justin Mason: I love Randy, but I think at this point, I would take Kwan especially if I needed the average help

Milton: 12 tm OBP league, I need to cut Brenton Doyle or TJ Friedl to activate R. Lewis. With whom should I part ways?

Justin Mason: I would hate to cut either. Can you trade one? If I had to I think it is Doyle

Rob: Would you drop Tork for Luke Raley or Mark Vientos?

Justin Mason: I’d grab Raley for Tork

Guest: 12 team 5×5, Aaron Judge and Mitch Keller are being traded for Marcell Ozuna and Grayson Rodriguez.  I should ask the commissioner to veto this trade, right?

Justin Mason: I don’t believe in vetoing trades unless there is provable collusion. Everyone has the right to make deals that they feel are in the best interest of their teams. Value is subjective and if both parties can defend why they are making a move, you shouldn’t veto a trade.

KC Pain: 18 dynasty 6×6 any deep sleepers at 2B? Lost Julien and I do have Norby but am scared of PT. Top 2B on WW is Triolo, N. Lopez, and Mateo.  Any suggestions?

Justin Mason: Brett Wisely is playing well in SF. If Mateo is healthy, I probably take him for his speed, but he may have a concussion from Mullins hitting him in the head.

Guest: Could someone explain why the Cubs insist on batting Dansby Swanson 8th in the lineup? You’re paying this guy 26 million to produce from the bottom of the lineup…come on man

Justin Mason: Because he is struggling and the lineup is good. He will move his way back up at some point

Dis or Dat: Can you rank Weather, Paddack, and Scott in a points format (that rewards extra points for QS)?

Justin Mason: Scott would be first if he hadn’t been demoted. I would say Weathers, Paddack, Scott, but if you can afford to stash, Scott has the best upside

KC Pain: What is up with the Naylors?  Complete BA collapse of Josh.  Bo…well worse but not unexpected.

Justin Mason: Josh is getting unlucky. He has a .205 BABIP when he is a career .285 guy. He will be better. Bo needs to go down to AAA. There isn’t much in the profile to say he is going to turn things around

Ted: What’s the deal with your boy Cedric? More specifically, what would you do with him in a 12-teamer? I’ve got him parked on the bench most nights, but feel like I can’t quite drop him (and there’s obviously zero trade value)

Justin Mason: I think it is time to drop him unfortunately. While I think he has to be better than this, in a 12 team league, you shouldn’t wait

JayBee: Has anyone taken a franchise-level statistical approach to injury? How many TJs annually in each system, farm to MLB? How many games lost to hamstring injuries, lat injuries, shoulder injuries? Would that identify franchises that were doing better prevention than others?

Justin Mason: I think Jeff Zimmerman looked at this in the past. I don’t know if there is a current study on it though

Kyle Manzardo: Should you hold Kyle Manzardo in 12 team redraft leagues?

Connor Norby: What are you thoughts on Connor Norby getting called up?

Justin Mason: I am kind of in the minority of the industry, but I don’t think that Norby is a special of a player for fantasy. He profiles as an accumulator in my opinion and Baltimore has not shown they will automatically play a guy every day just because they bring him up.

Chip: Need to drop a bat with Royce Lewis off the IL: Vierling, Adell, Langford or Schneider. Tempted to get rid of Adell; his swing and miss has come back.

Justin Mason: I am ok dropping Adell

Oh No-zarena: 2 months in and Randy A has been riding my bench for weeks. Is it safe to cut bait yet?

Justin Mason: I wouldn’t want to drop him but I understand it in shallow leagues.

Manny Machado: What to do with me?  Wait for 2nd half positive regression or cut bait with other options at 3B

Justin Mason: I think I am holding Machado. The numbers say he is fine and just needs to elevate a little more. I think he should have a rebound.

Justin Mason: I would drop springs. I never really trust guys coming back from TJ in their return.

KC Pain: Orioles have to make a move, right….right?  They are killing their prospect values w this musical chairs routine imo.  Cowser looked awesome and now meh. Stowers up and hot but AB once a week. Kjerstad back and forth.  The only one who got a legit shot, Holliday, wont be moved but also killed value if he was one of the guys they did want to. Just feels like overmarinating players because they are indulging in their wealth.

Justin Mason: I hope they package some hitting prospect for pitching. They would make a really good trade partner for anyone looking to move a pitcher and now that Kremer and Means are hurt, they have a need

Malloy? Oh Boy!: Any expectations for Malloy in DET if he gets PT? How deep a league is he an add?

Justin Mason: I think I would only add him in a 15 team league or deeper. I don’t know that I have a lot of faith that he will be successful considering his lack of contact skills..

Guest: Cowser worth an add in OBP 14T redraft? Over India, Neto, O’Hearn.

Justin Mason: I still believe in Cowser, so I would take him over neto

Triple Play!: I play in a 13 team mixed roto league(12 hitters, 7 P) with daily lineup changes ,no IP max and 8 bench spots. How many hitters should I keep on the bench?  Are platoon bats such as Kepler, O’Hearn, Wade worth rostering? Should I stream starters?

Justin Mason: I usually go 50/50 in these types of leagues. I like Kepler in this size format especially with the Daily moves.

Soler: Is there still hope for him this season? Is it the shoulder? Is he a drop in 12T?

Justin Mason: I think Soler will be better. The exit velo numbers and barrel rates are fine since the return.

Zahhh: Both are injured, I read. Who’s the better stash for this year Cade Povich or Junior Caminero?

Dude: What to expect from CJ Abrams rest of year? month 1 was nice. month 2 not so much… where are the steals?

Justin Mason: This is the type of player he is. He can run hot and cold in an instant because of his aggressive approach. He will be better if you stick him, but he can be frustrating.

Adenolith: Any thoughts on Neris ROS? I need the saves help but he’s walking tons and not really getting the saves. Yimi or Garrett preferable or wait it out?

ChicagoSteve: Is there a realistic path to more playing time for Miguel Vargas with the Dodgers this season? You’d think he could take ABs at 2B and 3B (or even a bit of 1B) in addition to the OF, but so far he’s only played OF on the small side of a platoon with J-Hey.

Justin Mason: I just don’t see the path to regular playing time. Dude needs a trade.

Mullins: Why is Mullins doing all of his damage against his teammates brains instead of the ball?

Justin Mason: This makes me so sad. I think the two issues are aggressiveness and the ball. He is swinging more inside the zone but not having the same quality of contact. I think he needs to be more selective in the zone. I also think the deader ball hurts him, especially in that park.

Justin Mason: If I need the SBs, I take Hamilton. In a vacuum, Keith for me.

Mike: Are you concerned with Fry’s playing time going forward?

Justin Mason: I think the Guardians will figure out ways to keep him in the lineup.

Guest: ok, back up this Raley love… I’m not seeing it. He was hot for a bit last year too but the contact was red flag and he could not sustain

Justin Mason: I wouldn’t call it love. I think he was the best of the options given. He is a guy to stream while playing well and drop once he struggles.

KC Pain: Any suggestions for dealing with, I dont want to say troublemaker (seems unintentional) in a dynasty league?  Guy made a couple trades at end of last season and now has 6 SS on roster. Seager, Adames, Abrams, Bichette, Volpe, and Tovar.  He also has Holliday in minors. We have 1 SS and 1 UT spot.  Obviously his team isnt competitive in a 18 team dynasty, but thing is he keeps begging for trades and then says no one will pony up for his guys. I inquired about Bichette and it was Wheeler+Ragans/Gil (about a month ago) he shot down a Churio for Holliday as well.  The guy isnt a jerk, wants to compete, but seems horribly off on his values. IDK if he tried to corner market or what. He goes with his *gut* no rankings he says. Any ideas to nudge him the right direction? It stinks bc a few moves and his team would be dominate but he is leaving so much on bench.

Justin Mason: This is always tough. I don’t know if there is a good answer. If I know the guy well, I tend to sit them down and explain what I think they are doing wrong, but often that leads people to thinking that you are calling them an idiot. Ultimately, you have to let people make their mistakes.

Michael W: I was just reading the transcript from Brent’s chat on BaseballHQ. It’s funny how often you two are asked the same question and give completely different answers. I like to view it as a cabinet meeting and getting all the points of view. That’s just a long way of saying thanks for the chat and all the podcasts.

Justin Mason: This is why I love to listen and read a lot of different takes. Sometimes it helps me reinforce what I believe and other times it turns me around.

To Stream or Not to Stream: It is worth the risk to your ratios to stream SP in a daily roto league with unlimited IP, where about the the top 120 SP are taken?

Justin Mason: I am a lot more careful with streaming in these formats because I hate having to repair ratios. Unless I know I am in a spot with needing Ks or wins, I am a bit more conservative.

Mullins: The .200 babip will surely regress; I just hope it does so before the O’s bench him.

Justin Mason: I really hope so.
