Fantasy Weekly Planner 8/24/20-8/30/20
This article is going to be a weekly planner/FAAB piece. It will come out each Sunday morning for those of you looking for ideas for that night’s pick-up.
Things to Consider
The Mets did not play this weekend due to COVID-19 and it is not known when they will resume play.
The Yankees, White Sox, and Braves only have five games this week.
The Reds and Cubs play a doubleheader this week.
The Cardinals and Pirates play a doubleheader this week.
The White Sox, Tigers, Rangers, Brewers, Cardinals, and Diamondbacks play all their games at home this week.
The Orioles, Royals, Twins, A’s. Mariners, Cubs, and Pirates play all their games at home this week.
The Rockies play three games in Coors against the Padres.
The Blue Jays play six games in Buffalo this week.
Pickups to Consider By Position
Catchers:
Joey Bart– The Giants top prospect has gotten the call and looks the part. A must add in all leagues.
Keibert Ruiz– Ruiz is overshadowed a bit this week, but he has all the upside that Bart has and is on the better team.
Infielders:
Robinson Cano– Since returning from the IL, Cano has been on fire. Hopefully the COVID outbreak in NY hasn’t cooled him off.
Abraham Toro– Toro should get a lot of run with Bregman on the IL. Toro would be a better known prospect if he was in a different org. Has power and can walk.
Brendan Rodgers– Rodgers got the call, but it is hard to tell if he will really get an opportunity in Colorado.
Jeimer Candelario– Candelario has moved over to first with CJ Cron out for the season. He is quietly putting up a decent average and showing a bit of power lately.
Ryan Mountcastle– Mountcastle is one of those prospects we have been waiting on for a while. He is here and the Orioles have no reason to not see what they have in him.
Outfielders:
Ramiel Tapia- With David Dahl hurt, Tapia has been getting a lot of playing time.
Cedric Mullins- Since becoming an everyday player on the 16th, he is .476 with a home run and a stolen base. This is a post hype sleeper available in most formats.
Starting Pitchers:
Casey Mize– Mize will be the most expensive pick up this week, but has a brutal schedule with multiple starts versus the Twins coming up.
Tarik Skubal– See Mize, Casey.
Dane Dunning– Dunning matched Mize’s debut, but got optioned back to the alternative training site because of the five game week for the White Sox, but he will be back soon. Can get him on the cheap and stash.
Sixto Sanchez– Sanchez was impressive in his debut on Saturday, not allowing a walk in the five inning start. Tough start this week versus the Rays.
Triston McKenzie– McKenzie had a very impressive debut which should get him another turn in the rotation before the Indians bring back Mike Clevinger and Zack Plesac.
Relievers:
Matt Barnes– Barnes inherits the closer role in Boston after the Brandon Workman trade. The question will be, how many save opportunities will he get if the Red Sox keep trading players away?
Emilio Pagan– With both Kirby Yates and Drew Pomeranz hurt, Pagan should get the first shot at the closing job. He hasn’t been very good this season, so don’t be surprised if Matt Strahm steals this job or the Padres employ a committee.
Two-Start Pitchers Worth Considering (Under 50% on CBS)
Brad Keller– at STL, at CHW
Chrisitn Javier- vs LAA, vs OAK
Framber Valdez– vs LAA, vs OAK
Patrick Sandoval– at HOU, vs SEA
Alec Mills– at DET, at CIN
Adam Wainwright– vs KC, vs CLE
Merrill Kelly– vs COL, vs SF
Alex Young– vs COL, vs SF
Johnny Cueto– vs LAD, at ARI
