Fantasy Weekly Planner: 8/17/20-8/23/20
This article is going to be a weekly planner/FAAB piece. It will come out each Sunday morning for those of you looking for ideas for that night’s pick-up.
Things to Consider
The Reds had a player test positive for COVID and it is unknown when they will play again.
The Phillies play five games this week.
The Rockies play only two games at home!
The Orioles, Braves, Cubs, and Pirates play all their games at home.
The Tigers, Phillies, Reds, and Brewers play all their games on the road.
Pickups to Consider By Position
Catchers:
Tomas Nido– Nido went double dong this week and has been hitting much better than starter Wilson Ramos. Could start stealing playing time soon.
Infielders:
Alec Bohm– Bohm is the Phillies top prospect and now should man third every day. He has the ability to hit for average and tap into great power.
Andres Gimenez– Gimenez has six stolen bases already in just 56 plate appearances. That is more than 11 MLB teams.
Asdrubal Cabrera– Will benefit from Starlin Castro’s injury.
Luis Garcia– Garcia may play quite a bit and he has already hit the ground running taking over for Starlin Castro. He can hit for average and has pop. Not to be confused with the Phillies prospect Luis Garcia that has speed.
Lewin Diaz– Doubt he stays up for long, but if he does, he has the ability to hit for power and average.
Jake Cronenworth– Cronenworth does a little bit of everything and is getting some play over Jurickson Profar.
Willi Castro– Castro could play close to everyday now that CJ Cron is done for the season. He has decent enough speed to steal four or five bags the rest of the way.
Outfielders:
Dylan Carlson– Top prospect finally gets his shot.
Jesse Winker– Winker is finally healthy and playing pretty much everyday.
Clint Frazier– With Stanton and Judge hitting the IL, Frazier should get a lot of at bats.
Jorge Mateo– Mateo is a Mason favorite. He just needs enough playing time to tap into his 80+ grade speed.
Robbie Grossman– Hitting very well right now and moving up the lineup.
Starting Pitchers:
David Peterson- Regression is coming, but he is pitching well and has a two-step this week with Miami and the Yankees.
Robert Gsellman– I had a lot of hope for Gsellman a few years ago before injuries and the Mets rotation depth buried him. He still needs to be stretched out, so in spite of a two-start this week, I would just stash him.
Adam Plutko– In the rotation with Clevinger and Plesac being optioned.
Relievers:
Tommy Hunter– Hector Neris has blown two save chances this week and while he likely has a decent leash, Hunter would figure to be first man up, though it could easily turn into a committee.
Tony Watson– Trevor Gott has been awful as of late and the Giants will likely turn to Watson or Shaun Anderson.
John Gant– Gant came and finished off Game 1 of the double header yesterday. Most people believe the closer is Giovanny Gallegos, but Cards may prefer him in a fireman role and with Ryan Helsley on the IL, Gant could be the main man.
Two-Start Pitchers Worth Considering (Under 50% on CBS)
Alex Cobb vs TOR, vs BOS
Jordan Lyles vs SD, at SEA
Touki Toussaint at ATL, vs PHI
David Peterson at MIA, vs NYY
