Daily Fantasy Strategy – 9/29 – For Draftstreet
As the season wraps up, there isn’t much to do but look back. With that in mind, I pulled all of the pitcher data and converted it into total DraftStreet points for the year.
Ideally, we’d have average price or purchase history to compare it to, but we don’t. The best we can do is look at the leaders and if anyone sticks out to you as a surprise, we can discuss in the comments.

The Daily Five
Bruce Chen – $8,784
This is me giving up and/or crossing my fingers for a reverse jinx. Chen inexplicably has a 3.79 ERA despite striking out nobody and subjectively just not having it. After weeks of betting against him, I’ll put myself at his mercy and the sweet, sweet mercy of the White Sox lineup, who have a .294 wOBA against southpaws.
Sonny Gray – $11,872
You already know by now that Gray has good #stuff, stirking out a batter a frame in 59 major league innings after doing the same in 118.1 Triple-A innings. Gray heads to Safeco on Sunday to face a Mariners squad that is decent against righties, below-average at home and downright terrible in September.
I’m taking a player each from Tampa Bay, Texas and Cleveland because they’re the only teams with something left to play for.
Evan Longoria – $6.902
Hey, Todd Redmon has been good and misses bats, but writing this on Saturday evening, we’ve gotta go with guys assured of playing time. Longoria comes quite cheap here and we’ll see if he’s got #TheWilToWin #clutch.
Adrian Beltre – $6.747
Jason Vargas is another guy who’s been better than expected but again, go with playing time. We already pegged a third baseman but plug Beltre in as the DH because I can’t figure why he’d come at a below-average price.
Yan Gomes – $8,275
And finally, we come to Scott Diamond. Nobody would blame you from stacking up against the soft-tossing lefty but DraftStreet is making you pay an expectant price on all these guys. Go for Gomes as the cheapest regular (and a catcher with assured playing time) who can hit southpaws.

With all the last minute SP changes – who ware the bad SPs you would pick on for HR and RBI potential? I’m looking at Diamond, Redmond, Webster. Agreed? I also noted that Viciedo and Konerko have crazy good numbers against Chen, whose FB% is way up there and he’s in US Cell.
Maybe Matt Joyce against Redmond too?
I wouldn’t look much into career numbers pitcher v hitter. Chen’s FB% is enticing for sure (ditto for Redmod/Webster) but I’m done betting against Chen haha.
As for the names you listed, Joyce would be the choice but I’d also grab any Indians you could because Diamond is terrible. Jeff Francis too, though you’re at the mercy of who the Dodgers play.
