Notable Workloads
•Emilio Pagán, MIN: 27 pitches on Monday. | RosterResource
It was co-closer Jhoan Duran (10 pitches) who recorded the save against Baltimore on Monday night, with Emilio Pagán recording the hold. If a save situation presents itself again on Tuesday night, it seems likely that both relievers could be used again, with Duran being the least taxed.
•Rafael Montero, HOU: 21 pitches on Monday. | RosterResource
It certainly seems nice to have three relievers to choose from in a save situation while the actual closer, Ryan Pressly, is on the IL. But, all three committee members were utilized last night with Héctor Neris (11 pitches) and Ryne Stanek (9 pitches) both recording the hold. Neris has thrown on back-to-back days so that leaves Stanek as the most likely to work in a save situation if Dusty Baker chooses the more rested arm.
•Kenley Jansen, ATL: 22 pitches on Monday. | RosterResource
Setup man Will Smith is the next man up should Jansen be unavailable on Tuesday.

Outlier Saves
• Chad Green, NYY | Roster Resource
Aroldis Chapman converted back-to-back save opportunities on Saturday and Sunday and was likely unavailable on Monday night. When starter Jordan Montgomery gave up a single to the first batter he faced, Bo Bichette, in a tied (2-2) bottom of the sixth, Aaron Boone went straight to Jonathan Loáisiga. The righty reliever has had a rough go to start the season as he’s given up two home runs (1.80 HR/9) and six walks (5.40 BB/9) and immediately walked Vladimir Guerrero Jr. upon entry. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is not a bad hitter to walk with a runner on in a tied game and it ended up being inconsequential as Loáisiga then got a double-play ball and a strikeout to end the inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Miguel Castro worked into trouble after a walk and a double placed runners in scoring position. That’s when Clay Holmes came in to get the last out of the seventh on a ground out. Holmes then went strikeout, single, single, and then ground out into a double play to end the eighth. The Yankees scored in the top of the ninth and in came Green to close out the game with two strikeouts and a groundout.
It’s clear that the Yankees have a few good arms in the pen this year, but it doesn’t seem like a definite next in line has surfaced yet. Clay Holmes has certainly emerged as one of the best candidates, holding a 0.92 WHIP and a 0.75 ERA through 12 innings pitched with the second most saves on the team at two. But, Chad Green whose 3.48 ERA and two blown saves on the season don’t emanate confidence, is apparently still in the mix. It will be interesting to watch how the rest of this series with the Blue Jays plays out and whether or not a clear next-in-line reliever will start to emerge in New York.
