Bullpen Report: May 2, 2021
NEW FEATURE ALERT! We have added an upgraded version of RosterResource’s Closer Depth Chart to FanGraphs. Read more about it here.
We will always include a link to the full Closer Depth Chart at the bottom of the Bullpen Report each day. It’s also accessible from the RosterResource drop-down menu and from any RosterResource page. Please let us know what you think.
The 2021 version of Bullpen Report includes five different sections, as well as the closer chart, which can be found at the bottom of the page.
- Notable Workloads: Primary closers or valuable members of a closer committee who have been deemed unavailable or likely unavailable for the current day due to recent workload.
- Injury News
- Outlier Saves: Explanation for a non-closer earning a save during the previous day.
- Committee Clarity: Notes on a closer committee that clarify a pitcher’s standing in the group.
- Losing A Grip: Struggling closers who could be on the hot seat.
The “RosterResource” link will take you to the corresponding team’s RosterResource depth chart, which will give you a better picture of the full bullpen and results of the previous six days (pitch count, save, hold, win, loss, blown save.)
Notable Workloads
•Josh Hader, MIL: 3 days in a row; 4 of last 5 days; 15 pitches on Saturday. | RosterResource
Hader was used again last night in a tied ninth inning that eventually went into extras. Devin Williams (18 pitches on Saturday) and J.P. Feyereisen are likely candidates for save chances if Hader isn’t available on Sunday.
•Ian Kennedy, TEX: 19 pitches on Saturday. | RosterResource
Kennedy should still be available on Sunday, but Joely Rodríguez (2 of last 3 days) and the more rested Josh Sborz are likely candidates for save opportunities if Kennedy needs a night off.
•Ryan Pressly, HOU: 19 pitches on Saturday. | RosterResource
Pressly should still be available on Sunday, but Ryne Stanek is likely the next man up should Pressly need some rest.
Injury News
•Jordan Hicks, STL: Removed from Saturday’s game (right arm tightness) | RosterResource
Hicks was seen wincing and flexing his arm as he walked off the field with the trainer last night after throwing 18 pitches in the seventh. As of this morning, there has been no official update, but this is a situation to monitor.
Jordan Hicks was removed from the game as a precaution after experiencing right arm tightness, per #Cardinals official.#stlcards #pirates
