Bullpen Report: June 25, 2023
The 2023 version of the Bullpen Report includes five different sections, as well as the closer chart, which can be found at the bottom of the page.
We will always include a link to the full Closer Depth Chart at the bottom of the Bullpen Report each day. It’s also accessible from the RosterResource drop-down menu and from any RosterResource page. Please let us know what you think.
- Notable Workloads: Primary closers or valuable members of a closer committee who have been deemed unavailable or likely unavailable for the current day due to recent workload.
- Injury News
- Outlier Saves: Explanation for a non-closer earning a save during the previous day.
- Committee Clarity: Notes on a closer committee that clarify a pitcher’s standing in the group.
- Losing A Grip: Struggling closers who could be on the hot seat.
The “RosterResource” link will take you to the corresponding team’s RosterResource depth chart, which will give you a better picture of the full bullpen and results of the previous six days (pitch count, save, hold, win, loss, blown save).

Notable Workloads
•Kenley Jansen, BOS: 14 pitches on Saturday, back-to-back days. | RosterResource
Chris Martin should be available on Sunday.
•Clay Holmes, NYY: 9 pitches on Saturday, back-to-back days. | RosterResource
One of the other four closer committee members should be available on Sunday and that is most likely Michael King. He’s the only one not on “High Usage Alert”.
•Jordan Romano, TOR: 5 pitches on Saturday, back-to-back days. | RosterResource
Either Erik Swanson or Nate Pearson is likely to fill in for the closer if he needs a rest.
•Kendall Graveman, CHW: 28 pitches on Saturday. | RosterResource
Reynaldo López or Joe Kelly should be available in a close situation if one comes up.
•Alex Lange, DET: 28 pitches on Saturday. | RosterResource
It’s hard to say whether Lange will go in back-to-back days after 28 pitches. If he does not, either José Cisnero or Jason Foley should be available.
•David Bednar, PIT: 29 pitches on Saturday, back-to-back days. | RosterResource
Setup men Dauri Moreta and Yerry De Los Santos should be available if Bednar is not.
•Camilo Doval, SFG: 23 pitches on Saturday, back-to-back days. | RosterResource
Tyler Rogers is also on “High Usage Alert” after throwing 23 pitches on his way to recording the hold. Taylor Rogers threw seven pitches and recorded the win and remains the most rested late-inning reliever headed into Sunday’s game.
Injury News
•Andres Muñoz, SEA | RosterResource
Muñoz threw in the bottom of the seventh inning and recorded two outs before being taken out of the game. It seems like nothing to be too concerned about but keep an eye on the status of the Mariners reliever who has been working as the main setup man in Seattle.
Munoz left the game because he was light-headed. Got checked out by doctors here at the park. Servais said he thinks he will be fine.

Outlier Saves
•None
Committee Clarity
•Scott McGough, ARI | RosterResource
Last week I wrote about McGough joining the committee and questioned how often he would take priority over Andrew Chafin and Miguel Castro. Now it seems that McGough has taken the lead as he’s recorded saves in his last three appearances. Look for Arizona to keep playing the hot hand as McGough is pitching extremely well. He hasn’t given up a run since May 12th which was 21 innings ago for the 33-year-old righty. In that time, McGough has walked seven batters (3.00 BB/9) and struck out 30 (10.66 K/9).
