Notable Workloads
•Emmanuel Clase, CLE: 10 pitches on Saturday, back-to-back days. | RosterResource
Trevor Stephan did not appear on Saturday and should be available on Sunday.
•A.J. Puk, MIA: 13 pitches on Saturday, back-to-back days. | RosterResource
Dylan Floro is the likeliest to appear in a save situation as Tanner Scott is also on “High Usage Alert”.
•David Bednar, PIT: 22 pitches on Saturday. | RosterResource
Bednar recorded the loss on Saturday and Colin Holderman threw 17 pitches and blew the save. Neither of them threw in back-to-back days so it’s possible that each will get a shot at redemption if the Pirates have the lead late in the game. Otherwise, if both are unavailable, Dauri Moreta is likely the next man up.
•Scott McGough, ARI: 35 pitches on Saturday. | RosterResource
Miguel Castro is also on “High Usage Alert” making Andrew Chafin the likeliest to appear in a save situation on Sunday.

Outlier Saves
•Brandon Walter, BOS | RosterResource
A 10-3 thrashing of the Oakland A’s led to Walter getting the last three innings and therefore, the save. The 26-year-old lefty made his major league debut against the Twins on June 22nd and threw 6.2 innings but did not start the game. He has two single-inning appearances in relief and this last three-inning appearance. It seems that Walter is likely to be utilized as a versitle long-relief pitcher. Here’s a snippet from Eric Longenhagen’s 2023 Red Sox Prospect Report where Walter ranks number 20 in the organization:
Because Walter has all his options remaining, it’s unlikely that he’ll move to the bullpen in the near future. He’ll likely move back and forth between roles like Tanner Houck (another non-traditional look for a starter), but on a postseason roster, this guy would be deployed as a multi-inning bridge.
Walter’s final line showed three innings, three hits, one unearned run, and three strikeouts.
