Committee Clarity
•Ryan Tepera, LAA | Roster Resource
Since the trading away of Raisel Iglesias to the Braves, Angels relievers have recorded three saves. One has gone to Tepera, one to José Quijada, and one to Jimmy Herget. There has been no indication that one of the three committee members is more likely than the other to step into a full-time closer role. For fantasy managers, holding one of these three relievers may not be the best usage of a roster spot, but streaming one of the three in good matchups while no one is looking could be a way to sneak a few saves or wins as the season heads into the home stretch.
Losing a Grip
•Hunter Strickland, CIN | Roster Resource
Strickland’s game logs in his last five appearances tell a difficult story. He’s given up seven earned runs in that time. Prior to July 28th, he had a good three-game stretch where he recorded two saves, gave up no runs, and only one hit, but he has not shown consistency this season. His 5.36 BB/9 on the year has led to a troubling 6.02 ERA (6.13 xERA). While Strickland leads the Reds relievers with seven saves, his committee counterpart Alexis Díaz has recorded four and there are seven other (nine in total) relievers with at least one save on the season. On paper, Díaz has been the better pitcher this season. He has struck out more batters with a solid 11.45 K/9 compared to Strickland’s 7.14, and has walked batters less often with a 4.75 BB/9. While you’re not going to win your league by running to the waiver wire to pick up Díaz, fantasy managers may want to consider swapping the two out if possible.
Rostering Clay is starting to get really painful. Can’t imagine they are going to roll with that much longer.
