Brad Johnson RotoGraphs Chat – 8/23/16

Here’s today’s transcript. Getting a lot of keeper questions now.

12:30

Michael: slim pickings on the waiver wire to replace strasburg (and the trade deadlines already passed). phelps, samardzija, or yordano for decent production until stras is back?

12:30

Brad Johnson: As long as you can stream, I’d go start by start rather than picking one guy

12:31

Brad Johnson: There will be days when Koehler, Foltynewicz, Reynaldo Lopez, etc. are all solid plays

12:31

Brad Johnson: as in, they’ll be facing Phillies or Braves

12:31

JD15: I am in an 18 team league that has holds and saves as head to head categories. With so many teams, all of the closers and primary set up men are already taken. What is the best way for me to find holds still on the wire? Do I look for who has been getting the opportunities very recently (ex. sort by last 7 days) or better track record over the course of the year? Basically, what time frame should I evaluate relief pitchers and how long do I give a guy before I move on to the next?

12:32

Brad Johnson: Since all but the best holds guys top out around 20 over a full season, I just target the most talented guys regardless of role

12:32

Brad Johnson: now, since it’s the end of the year, you don’t have the luxury of grabbing a Grant Dayton and waiting for the Dodgers to use him as their 8th inning guy

12:32

Matt C: Dylan Cozens or Rhys Hoskins for a dynasty?

12:33

Brad Johnson: Both so hard to evaluate since they’re playing in Reading. It’s Coors on steroids for that league. Throws everything out of skew.

12:33

Brad Johnson: From what I can gather, Hoskins is a little more likely to fit in the majors. Cozens is said to have too many holes to play in the majors

12:34

Brad Johnson: hard to believe that with the power numbers they both have though…

12:34

Dumpster Fiers: Conforto is on a tear. Any chance they call him up, or stick with Grandy, Bruce and Cespedes?

12:34

Brad Johnson: Sept. 1

12:34

Brad Johnson: Not sure he’ll even play then

12:34

Brad Johnson: The Mets are in desperate need of a spark, they really ought to turn to Conforto and tell him to carry them

12:34

Brad Johnson: not sure they have the stomach to bench Grandy or Bruce

12:34

Julie: would you drop shoemaker for robbie ray, or reynaldo in a dynasty?

12:34

Brad Johnson: for Ray, yes

12:35

Brad Johnson: I like Lopez a lot too for dynasty purposes, but take the guy performing now first

12:35

Brad Johnson: All 3 should be owned in a dynasty of any depth

12:35

Matt C: Who do you think will be the closer in Detroit next season? Texas?

12:35

Brad Johnson: I’ll bet on Keone Kela in Texas. Been a big fan of his for awhile.

12:36

Brad Johnson: Detroit will sign someone

12:36

Millie: Starting to invest in 2017 in dynasty. Anyone from this group interest you enough to churn the bottom of a roster: Shelby, Lance Lynn, Corbin, Dan Norris or Matt Boyd?

12:36

Brad Johnson: Lynn could rebound, I like him most

12:36

Brad Johnson: Shelby has the name brand if he suddenly is decent again

12:37

Brad Johnson: Boyd’s a guy I’ve always liked more than others. I recommended streaming him tomorrow 🙂

12:37

rustydude: Liam Hendriks was an Eno sleeper to get a lot of holds and possibly saves at the beginning of the season, but he struggled early. He seems to be better now. Would you grab him for holds over Joakim Soria?

12:37

Brad Johnson: Not sure he holds over Soria, but you don’t have to target only 8th inning guys for holds

12:38

Moelicious: Why does Fangraphs have multiple chats at the same time? Forces us to pick and choose. But I-choo-choose-you!

12:38

Brad Johnson: whoops, this is my fault entirely

12:38

Brad Johnson: my chat is normally scheduled for later in the day, but I’m trying to rearrange my schedule

12:39

Brad Johnson: didn’t think to coordinate with the main site

12:39

Brad Johnson: good news for you guys though, there are fewer people asking questions

12:39

Josh: How ‘real’ is this version of Alex Dickerson? Can he continue to hit for this kind of power while keeping his strikeouts down? Would you add him over Michael Saunders in a 12 team mixed league?

12:40

Brad Johnson: Well we’ve seen a spike in strikeouts in recent games. I think he settles in around 17%

12:40

Brad Johnson: otherwise, yea it’s real-ish. He has 20 HR pop, good contact skills, and an aggressive approach

12:40

Brad Johnson: it’s possible the scouting reports will catch up to him

12:41

Brad Johnson: expose something that completely defeats him

12:41

Brad Johnson: Jimmy Paredes is an example that comes to mind. Super aggressive approach then teams seemed to figure out how to get it past him

12:41

Brad Johnson: Paredes had terrible contact skills though

12:42

Toki: Man is it fun watching Reddick struggle since I dropped him in dynasty and everyone else is picking him up for a few days at a pop.

12:42

Brad Johnson: I like Josh Reddick 🙁

12:42

Brad Johnson: you see this sometimes with trades, it’s an overlooked issue

12:42

Brad Johnson: adjusting to a new city/role/team is not easy for everyone

12:43

Brad Johnson: you go from comfortable and relaxed to under pressure to prove yourself

12:43

Brad Johnson: some guys are unfazed. Others struggle

12:43

Brad Johnson: I thought that was happening with Jason Heyward this year

12:43

Brad Johnson: last year he was bad for awhile then flipped the switch

12:43

Brad Johnson: no switch this year

12:44

coach: Start Musgrove tonight in an innings-capped league where a QS, Ks and W is needed badly?

12:44

Brad Johnson: Without knowing your opportunity cost, probably

12:44

Brad Johnson: if you’re bumping somebody good from a Sunday start to do it, maybe not

12:44

Sal: ROS Kepler or Thompson?

12:44

Brad Johnson: Kepler

12:44

Brad Johnson: More playing time and I like his ability to keep adjusting

12:45

another bad dynasty manager: Deep league question: need to choose between Whalen , Miranda and Gant to keep for the remainder of the playoffs (if I survive the first round). I like Whalen. Wins don’t matter.

12:45

Brad Johnson: I’ll go look a little closer because those guys are unownable in my 900 players rostered league

12:46

Brad Johnson: On talent, I’d go with Miranda. I don’t think Whalen can maintain his strikeout rate with his stuff

12:46

Brad Johnson: but isn’t Miranda getting bumped with the return of Walker and Paxton?

12:46

Brad Johnson: I think so

12:46

Michael: re: streaming to replace stras, we have a 4 transaction and a 12 start per week limit, which makes pure streaming a bit tricky.

12:46

Brad Johnson: This was the first question

12:47

Brad Johnson: I’d still use that spot as a streamer rather than sitting on Yordano or similar

12:47

Brad Johnson: even if you just get one start and a Thursday hitter out of it

12:48

Eastern NC: Who do you like for the next three years, Gurriel or Soler! Pick a cuban!

12:48

Brad Johnson: I’m quite famously a Soler-denier, but I have to go with youth over old guy

12:48

Brad Johnson: by the way, that was the last question sent at 12:32

12:49

Brad Johnson: Took 18 minutes to wade through the first 2 of questions

12:49

Joey: If you’re making H2H playoffs in dynasty with a short bench, do you use your last roster spot for a nice-to-have like a top-flight reliever or for a high upside prospect like Tapia or Dom Smith? Flags fly forever and all but the nice-to-haves only nudge the percentages up by a bit…

12:49

Brad Johnson: You have to read your situation

12:49

Josh: Do you think Ramos eventually assumes the closing gig again in Miami?

12:49

Brad Johnson: Yes

12:49

Brad Johnson: No additional analysis

12:50

Brad Johnson: the Marlins do want to replace him long term, but I feel like the plan is to trade him before he plays his way out of the role

12:50

Pete: Jake Lamb has really been struggling. Reason to worry, or should we expect him to pull out of it?

12:50

Brad Johnson: I think he’s on fumes and pressing as a result

12:50

Brad Johnson: So yes and no

12:51

Brad Johnson: he might just be out of gas for this season, but I don’t think he’s lost the improvements he made entering the season

12:51

Brad Johnson: I haven’t noticed any particular exploit being used against him, though I admit I haven’t looked closely

12:51

Buck: You trusting Paxton in his first start back, or benching him for the week to be safe?

12:51

Brad Johnson: Mostly benching

12:51

Brad Johnson: depends on desperation

12:51

Cubbies: Word out of Boston today is John Henry says “we absolutely need” Sandoval next year. Is he worth my last FAAB $1 over keeping a $6 Gallo for 2017?

12:52

Brad Johnson: woof, I might just stick with Gallo. A whole lot of risk and reward in those guys

12:52

Brad Johnson: fwiw, I don’t expect Gallo to play much in the majors next year

12:52

Brad Johnson: Texas is going to find it’s never the right time to promote him

12:53

Brad Johnson: hopefully (for them), they trade him to a non-contender before he’s completely devalued

12:53

Howard: For next season, in a weekly 5×5 H2H, would you keep Bregman over Trea Turner? Or are the SB too valuable not to keep Turner?

12:53

Brad Johnson: I prefer Bregman’s mix of skills

12:54

Brad Johnson: but there aren’t too many formats where you’d keep Bregman and not Bregman+Turner

12:54

JD15: Is Byron Buxton the new Corey Patterson or do you still believe in him?

12:54

Brad Johnson: I was more thinking Fernando Martinez, Domonic Brown, etc.

12:54

Brad Johnson: It’s not so much a belief thing for me

12:54

Brad Johnson: Sometimes players of this asset class turn it around

12:54

Brad Johnson: sometimes they flop

12:55

Brad Johnson: the flop is now looking more likely than the turn around, but it’s still around even odds

12:55

Brad Johnson: Most players like Buxton have at least one or two useful seasons. Or at least an amazing month like that one Dom Brown May

12:55

another bad dynasty manager: Why do people keep recommending streaming against the Braves? Whether you choose since the All-Star break or the last 30 days, the Braves are middle of the pack in both wOBA and wRC+.

12:56

Brad Johnson: Because they have one talented hitter in their lineup and a bunch of scrubs. They are demonstrably the weakest lineup in baseball on pure talent, regardless of what the recent performance says

12:57

Brad Johnson: past performance is a flawed proxy for predicting future performance

12:57

Brad Johnson: of course, that’s how we do 95% of what we do here at FanGraphs, we model past performance in some way

12:58

Brad Johnson: but it’s important to understand the weaknesses in the approach

12:58

ryN: Stream my C position in an 11-team roto (and also use the spot for random other streaming needs) or hold onto Gattis?

12:58

Brad Johnson: Sanchez, Grandal, or Zunino available?

12:58

Brad Johnson: Can’t imagine streaming is a great option, but you might as well

12:59

Brad Johnson: Gattis may lose playing time with the DH crunch building in Houston

12:59

John: How close is Addison Russell to keeper status in a 12 team keep 6 forever league? Standard scoring. already keeping altuve, Betts, springer, Freeman. Have Cruz, Russell, lamb and Bergman under consideration for the other two spots. Russell is hitting awfully well lately. is he finally turning the corner at 22 to become elite?

12:59

Brad Johnson: I’d be keeping Russell with those choices

12:59

Brad Johnson: over Freeman even

1:00

Brad Johnson: Don’t get too attached to your plans just yet

1:00

Brad Johnson: plenty of baseball left to change your mind

1:00

Jaypo : What do you think of a fantasy league where the only stat is measured is WAR?

1:01

Brad Johnson: One of my experimental reader leagues is WAR only

1:01

Brad Johnson: It’s called Fire and Forget because we draft a team and don’t change anything

1:01

Brad Johnson: no other way to do it besides a lot of hand calcing

1:01

Josh: What do you think of Matt Boyd since his recall last month? Would you start him tomorrow vs MIN?

1:01

Brad Johnson: Yes, I recommended him in today’s Daily Grind

1:01

Jackson: Would you still keep Schwarber for 2017 in a standard 5×5, even though he’s no longer C-eligible?

1:02

Brad Johnson: Depends on the cost

1:02

Brad Johnson: I’m on the pessimistic side when it comes to Schwarber

1:02

Brad Johnson: I see a late-career Jay Bruce. Maybe you get the better version of Bruce instead

1:03

Dumpster Fiers: Nats going to stick with Cole, or is it time for Giolito to get another shot?

1:03

Brad Johnson: I don’t have a read on this. Lopez appears to have a locked spot though

1:03

Brad Johnson: My hunch is that the Nats don’t want to yo-yo Giolito anymore

1:03

Brad Johnson: they have a huge lead, they can just milk Cole and play it safe with their top arm

1:03

Cubbies: On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being “meh” and 10 being a 5 alarm fire, how concerned should we be with Sonny Gray’s “elbow” issue for 2017? I grabbed him for $5 a couple weeks ago in my 12 team AL only league.

1:04

Brad Johnson: 7.5?

1:04

Brad Johnson: I started the year out on Gray. I sure ain’t jumping in on him now

1:04

Eastern NC: Diaz a lock to be the Mariners closer next year?

1:04

Brad Johnson: Nope

1:04

Brad Johnson: Chance he goes back to starting

1:05

Brad Johnson: the tricky part with pitchers like this – Chapman, Papelbon (way back), Osuna, maybe Rosenthal – is that they need seasoning in the minors to stick as a starter

1:05

Brad Johnson: It’s hard to sell your fans that it’s a good idea to take an elite closer and move him into a role which requires most of a lost season in Triple-A

1:06

Brad Johnson: Plus Diaz is probably a midrotation starter at best

1:07

Brad Johnson: with teams changing their evaluation of reliever prices, it’s probably easier for a club to justify leaving a player like Diaz in the bullpen

1:07

JD15: Dahl stole 2 bases last night! Let the power+ coors + speed commence!

1:07

Brad Johnson: About time. I was starting to worry the bases would disappear entirely

1:07

Brad Johnson: I don’t expect more than 15 per season, but they’re important

1:07

Choo Choo: Any chance Rodney holds the gig over Ramos?

1:08

Brad Johnson: There’s a chance. It’s not very likely from my perspective

1:08

Josh: Would you start Jon Gray @MIL tonight? The matchup is enticing but he’s had three straight rough starts.

1:08

Brad Johnson: Sure. I’m thinking about it for DFS tonight

1:08

Brad Johnson: riskiest in roto because of the blow up risk

1:08

Brad Johnson: Brewers also strike out so often

1:09

Joey: Where would you rank Marcus Stroman as a dynasty asset? Top 40sp? Better?

1:09

Brad Johnson: smells right. He’s a guy I need to re-evaluate in a more systematic way

1:09

Brad Johnson: can’t glean as much from his fangraphs stats

1:10

Brad Johnson: I like how he’s looked in the second half

1:10

Joey: How do you treat Rich Hill in dynasty? Expendable at the end of the year or must keep?

1:10

Brad Johnson: dynasty means something different to everyone

1:10

Brad Johnson: He’s not anywhere near the cut line in my concept of dynasty

1:10

Brad Johnson: He should be about the 10th-15th player kept out of 30+ in a 20 team format

1:11

Brad Johnson: 10-15th for a given team that is, not overall (obviously)

1:11

TROUT2016: Does Cam Bedrosian become the closer for LAA in ’17?

1:11

Brad Johnson: I think they buy somebody

1:11

Brad Johnson: I mean, yea, he could probably close

1:11

Brad Johnson: but then you have garbage in front of him

1:11

Brad Johnson: they need to overhaul that entire pen

1:12

Brad Johnson: and it’s probably best with the young guy in a high leverage fireman role

1:12

Brad Johnson: like Andrew Miller

1:12

Brad Johnson: young players usually handle that role better than free agent vets

1:12

BP: Sonny Gray worth a DL stash for next year? I can snag him in my dynasty league.

1:13

Brad Johnson: I should keep ‘opportunity cost’ copied so I can just paste it over and over again

1:13

Brad Johnson: sure, if the opportunity cost is reasonable

1:13

Brad Johnson: I wouldn’t expect anything out of him

1:13

rustydude: I have a lot of #2/#3 starters. How would you rank Porcello, Shoemaker, Smyly and (gulp) Felix, down the stretch?

1:14

Brad Johnson: depends what you’re maximizing. Porcello’s a good source of wins and ratios. Felix has good potential for run support too

1:14

Brad Johnson: Shoe ad Smyly have garbage support

1:14

Brad Johnson: but they may be better pitchers right now.

1:14

Brad Johnson: Strong emphasis on may

1:15

Brad Johnson: they’re all pretty similar in terms of asset class

1:15

Brad Johnson: I’ll say Porcello, Shoe, Felix, Smyly

1:15

Brad Johnson: there’s a chance Shoe has lost his feel for the splitter too

1:15

Cubbies: What kind of role does Profar have next year? He started off with a bang when Bannister played him regularly but when he shifted him to a part-time role he fell off a cliff.

1:15

Brad Johnson: SUPER UTILITY

1:16

Brad Johnson: you’re seeing the causality wrong

1:16

Brad Johnson: the scouting report caught up to Profar so he was shifted to part-time

1:16

Eastern NC: Long term keeper, need to get younger. Keep Benintendi or Dahl if my windown is open?

1:16

Brad Johnson: Both? How are you not keeping both?

1:16

Brad Johnson: Dahl if you really must choose. I can’t turn my back on Coors

1:17

Mike: Thoughts on last two keeper spots in a 12 team 4×4 NL only league? Votto $28, Segura $26, Bruce $24, Vizcaino $5. Worth noting that i have Villar for $12 for steals

1:17

Brad Johnson: And you’re keeping Villar, right?

1:17

Brad Johnson: Votto’s the easy one. Not a fan of the others at all, but at least Viz is cheap

1:17

Ombudsman: Would you start Salazar at Oakland tonight? Thanks Brad!

1:17

Brad Johnson: No

1:17

Brad Johnson: unlikely to exceed 5 innings

1:18

Dave Kingman: Need help with keepers. 5×5 auction ($260 budget) 13 team roto league with OPB instead of AVG. Can keep 4. Degrom-$13, Happ $3, Dozier $9, Blackmon $14, Ozuna $7 or Trumbo $11.

1:18

Brad Johnson: I assume you don’t need to decide yet, right?

1:18

Brad Johnson: Blackmon is the only guy locked in, barring injury

1:18

Brad Johnson: a note on Trumbo…

1:18

Brad Johnson: at that price, you’re going to feel like you must keep him because of what he’s done this year

1:19

Brad Johnson: players of his profile can put together some very bland seasons though. i.e. Chris Carter

1:19

Brad Johnson: not saying you should cut him, just be open to the idea when the time comes

1:20

MASH: I’ve been holding Puig in my dynasty, but can I move on? The talent is there, but what a headache. Does LAD even bring him up in Sept?

1:20

Brad Johnson: If you’ve held him this long, you might as well hold on. He’s raking…

1:20

Brad Johnson: If you read what I had to say about him the other day, you know I don’t see much potential in him

1:21

Brad Johnson: but I doubt there’s a better asset sitting out there in a dynasty

1:21

Josh: What type of value do you place on Kendrys Morales? His numbers are suppressed, but he seems to have run into some bad BABIP luck considering his exit velocity is elite and he’s still spraying the ball. Can you rank him, Saunders, and Alex Dickerson ROS?

1:21

Brad Johnson: I think I’d roll with Dickerson over Morales right now, but I’d take him over Saunders

1:21

Brad Johnson: I think he’s a fine core player in a sufficiently deep league

1:21

Brad Johnson: hopefully you had the flexibility to sit him through that early season slump

1:22

Bill: What do you think of Ryan Schimpf for next year in an OBP league. Certainly he won’t hit 40+ HR like his current pace, but is 20-25 reasonable. Even with a low BABIP currentlly, and .220’s BA he has been running an OBP of .340. Seems like a poor mans Odor without steals but a better OBP

1:22

Brad Johnson: I don’t think he plays if he’s pumping a 20 HR pace

1:23

Brad Johnson: we need more data on him, but from what’s available, he’s like a .190/.300/.480 hitter.

1:23

Brad Johnson: It’s a VERY weird profile, especially for such a small guy

1:23

Brad Johnson: so many whiffs and everything is in the air

1:24

Brad Johnson: he’s going to have matchups that really suit his swing – most of the time he’ll walk or bust

1:24

Alex : Is Trevor Story a 2nd round pick next year despite the influx of shortstop talent?

1:24

Brad Johnson: Yes. And he’ll still be a bargain

1:24

Moelicious: Does Saunders have anything left in the tank? He has been brutal since the ASB.

1:24

Brad Johnson: probably playing banged up is my guess

1:24

Brad Johnson: the Blue Jays outfield is so hurt that they just need bodies

1:25

Brad Johnson: if he’s less hurt than others…you leave him out there

1:25

Bill: How do you compare some of the young infield prospects (Rosario, Albies, Adames, and though he’s not a SS, Devers) in terms of how quickly they are likely to arrive in the majors, and who do you see as being better major leaguers, and fantasy prospects. How does that group compare to Moncada

1:25

Brad Johnson: Devers is the only one I look at as a big fantasy prospect

1:26

Brad Johnson: I think the others will likely be fine MLB players but with more of a core or support type line for fantasy

1:26

Brad Johnson: I don’t see Albies as a fantasy guy at all

1:26

Brad Johnson: Talk to me again in a year or two

1:26

Brad Johnson: it’s hard to evaluate guys when they’re way too young for their levels and struggle

1:27

Brad Johnson: Might be a better Freddy Galvis, might be Elvis Andrus

1:27

Brad Johnson: Moncada is lightyears ahead of them as a fantasy prospect

1:27

MikeD: Josh Bell, Nunez, and Piscotty OR Piscotty, Nunez, and M. Ozuna ROS? The one hangup is can keep Bell for next year.

1:28

Brad Johnson: Bell really complicates things because it all hinges on the Pirates deciding his defense is startable

1:28

Brad Johnson: Just on pure talent, Ozuna side easily

1:28

Brad Johnson: with the keep factored in, you have to evaluate where you are

1:28

MikeD: Thanks!

1:28

Brad Johnson: You’re welcome

1:28

Pat: Hey Brad. Arrieta or MadBum today?

1:28

Brad Johnson: Gimme the Bum

1:29

Ben: With Jose Abreu looking better lately, where do you think he should be valued next season? I have him under contract for $27 out of 260 next season. Sell him before the draft or hold?

1:29

Brad Johnson: Sell

1:29

Brad Johnson: My colleague talked me into bumping him from around 15th to somewhere in the top 10 among 1B preseason. I won’t make that mistake twice

1:29

Brad Johnson: nor will as many of my colleagues

1:30

Bregman: Bregman or Moncada long term? Position doesn’t matter.

1:30

Brad Johnson: Moncada

1:30

Brad Johnson: Bregman hasn’t done quite enough for me to say take the less talented, MLB performer

1:30

Pat: Chris Sale, Jose Fernandez and various others have had their worst starts this season come against the Braves. Do you think maybe there’s a mental aspect there when you’re facing one of the worst offense that maybe they don’t think they need to be as sharp or something?

1:30

Brad Johnson: A little bit

1:31

Brad Johnson: it’s a game plan thing. You don’t respect the hitters so you throw more center cut fastballs

1:31

Brad Johnson: then all of a sudden you’re behind

1:31

Brad Johnson: just because they’re a bad big league lineup doesn’t mean they can’t hit a fat fastball

1:31

Ben: Trust Danny Duffy next season? I can keep him for $4 in a 20 team categories league. Keep him or sell him in the offseason?

1:31

Brad Johnson: shop while planning to keep

1:31

Brad Johnson: let someone blow you away

1:32

Alex : Bregman, Ozuna, Mazara or Odor for next year

1:32

Brad Johnson: Tough choices. Keep an open mind until later

1:32

Brad Johnson: Probably Odor or Bregman

1:32

Steve: Do you play DFS regularly or is it only the Daily Grind? If you play regularly, how have you fared?

1:32

Brad Johnson: yea

1:33

Brad Johnson: so I actually did the math today because I’ve burned through the money I set aside for FanDuel

1:33

Brad Johnson: Luckily, I’m up by nearly the same amount on DraftKings

1:33

Brad Johnson: so it’s basically cancelled out this year

1:33

Brad Johnson: I’m still up about $4,000 lifetime, but I’ve basically been bleeding rakes since 2014

1:34

Brad Johnson: it’s gotten a lot harder to win GPPs in the last two years

1:34

Brad Johnson: I only play GPPs fwiw

1:34

Frat Teddy: Start Taijuan tonight? Or stay away?

1:34

Brad Johnson: I’d pass

1:34

Brad Johnson: unlikely to pitch more than 5 innings

1:34

Brad Johnson: if you’re desperate, go ahead

1:34

Toki: When Yan Gomes cokmes back. What can we expect ROS?

1:34

Brad Johnson: I’d count on nothing, and hope to be surprised

1:34

Ben: What do we expect from Mike Zunino going forward? Top 10 catcher next season?

1:35

Brad Johnson: Looking like it

1:35

Sneaky Beaky: Pollock ROS?

1:35

Brad Johnson: Complete wild card

1:35

Brad Johnson: seems healthy and fresh in his rehab stint

1:35

Brad Johnson: could be a big spark for the DBacks over a Mitch haniger type

1:35

John: Do you expect anything from Derek Holland ROS?

1:35

Brad Johnson: nope

1:35

Matt : When do we officially start calling Sandy Leon the greatest hitter who ever lived

1:35

Brad Johnson: what a mystery he is…

1:36

Matt: I’m in first place in a league with some friends. I’m 16-3, 4 games up on second place , led wire to wire, have first place wrapped up and have a longer win streak, currently 9, than half the teams have wins in the league. No question, just wanted to brag a bit.

1:36

Brad Johnson: I’ll allow it

1:36

Frat Teddy: Jeff Samargksoieiliala worth a start vs the braves this week?

1:36

Brad Johnson: I’d skip Samardijonmustard against just about everyone now

1:36

Brad Johnson: maybe even the braves

1:37

Kelly: Enrique Burgos worth a grab even in shallow 10-teams?

1:37

Brad Johnson: If you need save, sure

1:37

OddBall Herrera: Where are you on Mazara in terms of his power development? Seems like things have played out much like people worried it would when he was called up as far as good contact skills but sacrificing power to achieve that

1:37

Brad Johnson: That’s not exactly how I read it

1:37

Brad Johnson: he’s a little like Yelich in that he hits too many ground balls

1:37

Brad Johnson: unlike Yelich, there’s that hope he can still adjust a little

1:37

Brad Johnson: and he’s more powerful in a physical sense

1:38

Brad Johnson: So I think we can expect 20 home runs from the current profile with a very stretch upside of 40 if EVERYTHING goes right

1:38

Brad Johnson: there’s still potential for a superstar bat in there

1:38

Seth: machado start stealing again ala mr trout?

1:39

Brad Johnson: I don’t know. He has ZERO steals. Trout always stole some

1:39

Brad Johnson: I think the team told him “you’re too valuable to run”

1:39

Linus: Feel confident enough with Gary Sanchez at C ROS to trade Buster Posey for needed upgrade elsewhere?

1:39

Brad Johnson: If the upgrade is big, then yea

1:39

Brad Johnson: the league will adjust to Sanchez

1:39

Brad Johnson: see Contreras, Willson

1:40

B Square: Dropped Raisel for the Shark. Good move?

1:40

Brad Johnson: Not likely

1:40

Brad Johnson: really depends on your needs though

1:40

Brad Johnson: ‘it depends’ is another phrase I need sitting in the clipboard

1:41

Bri: Drop J. Upton for Matt Boyd? Think I would regret that?

1:41

Brad Johnson: Well it’s almost September, we have to stop waiting eventually.

1:41

Brad Johnson: I assume by Boyd, you mean you’re going to stream

1:41

Brad Johnson: because just owning Boyd by himself is like not rostering a player

1:42

Nervus Lamb Owner: Lamb has been bad for a month no question but it’s worth pointing out that he did face an 8 game stretch in there where he faced Matz, Colon, Thor, Price, Buchholz, Porcello, Colon and Thor again. Lot of guys would put up bad numbers against that run of SP. He had a good series against MIlwaukee right before that run so I’m hoping it’s just a blip and he gets back on track soon but I have to admit, I’m a little worried.

1:42

Brad Johnson: nothing to add

1:42

Kevin: Aaron Judge or Keon Broxton ROS in a points league?

1:42

Brad Johnson: Judge

1:42

Brad Johnson: ok wrapping this up

1:42

Bird: Brad, I’d like to scoop Matt Boyd. Should I drop JUpton or Taijaun Walker for him? Who do you have more faith in ROS, Upton or Walker?

1:42

Brad Johnson: Walker

1:42

Brad Johnson: as in keep Walker

1:42

Bo: 10 Team, keep 12 league. I have Bregman, Corey Seager, Jonathan Villar and Jose Ramirez. Any scenario in which keeping all 4 makes sense?

1:43

Brad Johnson: Sure, subject to your keeper rules

1:43

Brad Johnson: Ramirez probably draws the short straw, but he’s a good flex guy

1:43

Eastern NC: Regarding Benintendi and Dahl, already keeping Rizzo, Trout, Xander, Miggy, and J. Fernandez.

1:43

Brad Johnson: From earlier

1:43

Brad Johnson: that’s rather ridiculous

1:43

Brad Johnson: go for the bigger fantasy stats with Dahl

1:43

Brad Johnson: Benintendi will probably more talented in a real sense

1:44

Action Jackson: Got Rodon, Walker, and Garcia. Start all 3 tonight?

1:44

Brad Johnson: I’m edgy about Walker in particular

1:44

Bill: What are your thoughts on James Paxton for the ROS as well as going into 2017? Can he keep up the gains he made, and is he a bigger injury risk than your typical SP?

1:44

Brad Johnson: yes and yes

1:44

Bill: Do you see Mateo up next season for the Yankees? And if so, does he have the skill set to be their full time SS and move Didi to 3B?

1:44

Brad Johnson: not likely and probably not

1:44

Cubbies: Is Musgrove more of a #3 or #2 SP and do you expect him to struggle much in 2017?

1:45

Brad Johnson: It’s a little hard to use that dichotomy because most people think of a top 20-30 guys as #3’s even though that’s really a #1

1:45

Brad Johnson: I think he’ll be a poor man’s Kyle Hendricks if that helps

1:45

Avi: Will Moncada be making some type of debut in 10 days or is that a fantasy?

1:46

Brad Johnson: I don’t think we’ll see him this year

1:46

Brad Johnson: he’s going to Fall League, doesn’t look ready for the majors statistically, and doesn’t need to be on the 40-man

1:46

Brad Johnson: the 40-man spot matters

1:47

Brad Johnson: he only comes up if they think they need a wild card to reach the Wild Card

1:47

Paul: Alex Gordon: just a hot streak, or someone worth grabbing in 10-team?

1:47

Brad Johnson: Kind of boring for 10 team, but I don’t mind streaming him

1:47

Brad Johnson: I almost answered everyone today. 30 second blitz time

1:47

Michel: Logan Forsythe a 10-team guy for you, or too boring?

1:47

Brad Johnson: Yes

1:47

Zorn: Thought on Teoscar as dynasty asset?

1:48

Brad Johnson: Like him

1:48

Curious: Do you see what Jose Ramirez has done as being sustainable(ish) for his career. Dude is just 23, considering him in a 10 team, 15 player keeper league.

1:48

Brad Johnson: sustainable-ish

1:48

Nickel: Is this a last hurrah for Napoli, or can he repeat this year’s performance next year? I believe he is a FA too, right? Do the Indians re-sign?

1:48

Brad Johnson: might be dead cat, but I’ll buy again
