Toki: Got offered Raji Davis, Danny Espinosa, and Salvador Perez, for my Margot and Willson Cotreras in our 10 team OPS, H2H dynasty league. Which Side do you like? Personally I like my guys more since Espinosa is losing time with Turner up, Davis is almost 36 and never seems to be a starter at the beginning of a season and Contreras seems to have way more offensive upside then Perez.

Brad Johnson: Contreras is the guy to own in that scenario

NCKLM: Brad, I was offered J.D. Martinez for Osuna? I’m strong in saves. Worth the risk for J.D.?

Brad Johnson: I’m a huge JDM fan and he’s due back any day now. I’d do it based on your stated needs

Toki: ny chance the Yankees try to flip Frazier and Judge with other top end prospects for Trout this offseason? MAybe include Severino.

Brad Johnson: They aren’t good enough

Brad Johnson: they could try, but they need a high grade established youngster too. Think Odubel Herrera + Frazier/Sev/Judge/Bird/Betances/++

Brad Johnson: To acquire Mike Trout, I figure you need to offer at least 8 good to very good players

Brad Johnson: Red Sox could do it for less with Moncada, Benintendi, Devers as the headline

Brad Johnson: still need a lot more beyond that

Josh: Better fantasy prospect, Brinson or Corey Ray?

Brad Johnson: Not much read on Ray just yet so I’ll go with the established guy. Odds are you have better alternatives

Padres: Was there really no market for Derek Norris?

Brad Johnson: I guess not? I thought he would go to the Rangers. The Indians deal falling apart probably ruined that

Brad Johnson: So this was a weird one

Brad Johnson: They MUST have talked through that exact scenario before executing the first trade. Otherwise they would have shrugged and said too bad

JD: In a league where saves and holds are equal, the Yankees deals hurt the value of Betances, right? Still great pitcher but less opportunities

Brad Johnson: I don’t see why that would be the case, saves are more numerous than holds

Brad Johnson: they’ll still use him frequently

Josh: What did you think of what Milwaukee did yesterday? Like the Texas haul better than what they were set to receive from Cleveland?

Brad Johnson: No, I liked Cleveland’s offer a lot more

Brad Johnson: That said, I thought the Lucroy/Jeffress swap was fine, a bit light based on what the market paid for comparable RP

Brad Johnson: Jeffress alone rated Brinson or Ortiz ++

Brad Johnson: and Lucroy should be worth more than Jeffress I would think

Brad Johnson: however…just because they could have gotten more doesn’t mean it was really a bad deal

Steve: My Justin Turner for his Anthony Rendon in a 12 team obp/slg league.

Brad Johnson: If you need a chance for +6 SB and/or a 2B. Otherwise, I prefer Turner in a vacuum

Avi: So now that Gallo has not been traded, has he been sent down to AAA forever because….

Brad Johnson: Kinda shocked he wasn’t traded. His immediate future is a big ol ???

Ronnie: Do you think Cleveland may have overpaid for Miller? Given what the Nats ended up giving for Melancon, and knowing what possible injury risk comes with Miller.

Brad Johnson: Yea, it’s the injury risk that does it for me. I’m fine with the deal if the forearm issue wasn’t out there

Brad Johnson: And as long as he helps them run deep into October, it was worth it

Brad Johnson: can’t count on a rotation first roster to carry you multiple years.

Mickey Donovan: Out of it in a H2H 8×8 OBP league, keep 6. Keeping Machado, Correa, Syndegaard. Have to choose 3 of Cespedes, Jackie Bradley, Yelich, Giolito, Bregman, Contreras and Moncada. Help! Trade deadline is in 2 weeks! Thank you.

Brad Johnson: Well, not Yelich, Giolito, or Contreras. Obviously, I’d try to trade for more Machado-level talents

Brad Johnson: and I take it back, maybe Yelich if Bregman doesn’t adjust at all

Mischa: Higher upside for fantasy playoffs (pts lg) Gurriel or Benintendi?

Brad Johnson: I’ll say benintendi, but that’s mostly because Gurriel could be just about anything

Brad Johnson: and most of anything is a range of bad outcomes

drassel: Carlos Martinez (my team) vs Edwin Diaz and Wainwright or Maeda ? Good move for the rest of season or not enough ?

Brad Johnson: take Diaz and Waino

Steve: General fantasy league question for you: when setting a trade deadline, isn’t it wise to always have it after the MLB deadline? About half the teams in one of my leagues are now without their closers and I’m holding 6 that I can’t trade, but I don’t want to drop.

Brad Johnson: uh, yea

Brad Johnson: In my opinion, the fantasy trade deadline should be around 9/15

Brad Johnson: 8/30 on the early side

JD: Needed to open up a roster spot so I traded 4 years of Urias and 4 years of Severino for 5 years of Moncada? By how much did I overpay?

Brad Johnson: No that’s a shrewd move

Brad Johnson: not overpayment at all, pitchers are so flammable

Steve: What do we do with Max Kepler? Top 30 OFer ROS?

Brad Johnson: I have to answer that conundrum for myself. Was offered EE (non keeper) for $7 to keep Kepler (+$7 per season)

Brad Johnson: My team is 4th and needs offense

Brad Johnson: the one thing I’ll say about Kepler, he’s risen to the competition at every level

Brad Johnson: always looks like he should stall at the next stop and then he adjusts

Brad Johnson: The stat guy in me says to expect regression in the ISO ASAP

fresh basil: Poured resources into speculative saves since I’m way out this year. Looks like I’m hitting on Edwin Diaz. Thoughts Cam Bedrosians follows?

Brad Johnson: very likely

Brad Johnson: Street’s awful

RE2PECT: Maybe a question for Eric, but do any of the prospects/youngins dealt yesterday/recently see playing time this year? Dilson Herrera maybe? Susac probably?

Brad Johnson: Susac should start immediately

Brad Johnson: he’s a 26 year old

Brad Johnson: not a prospect, just a guy who should be in the majors

Brad Johnson: I would say Herrera should be up, but the Reds didn’t shed Cozart or Phillips

Brad Johnson: so they’ll probably leave him in Triple-A one more year

Brad Johnson: Tilson should get a Sept. call up

Brad Johnson: he’s MLB ready

Brad Johnson: good 4th or 5th outfielder

JD: In my 18 team 5 year keeper league I was offered Tanner Roark for my JBJ (both have same keeper status). I need pitching but I can do better, right?

Brad Johnson: Yea, much better

Brad Johnson: if you’re going for it, target a big name non-keeper instead

Brad Johnson: make a difference in your bid to win

Brad Johnson: if you’re just floating near contention, then prioritize hitters over pitchers

Al Bumbry: If Salazar is hurt, is Clevinger or Anderson worth a shot in AL-only?

Brad Johnson: Yep they’re worth a shot

Brad Johnson: just understand the downside when starting them

Russell Archer: Did the Giants overpay for Will Smith? Solid catchers don’t grow on trees as this season tells us and a guy who could make the rotation is a nice return (frankly like everything the Brew Crew did this deadline)

Brad Johnson: Seemed a tad high but only because of the recent injury

Brad Johnson: Remember, Smith was expected to get surgery but opted to rehaab

Dumb Duff: I sat Duffy last night b/c TB usually punishes LHP. Why does it hurt so bad?

Brad Johnson: But they traded Pearce and Guyer, their two mashiest lefty mashers

Brad Johnson: when I saw that, I immediately switched to Duffy in DFS (also had to divest of Pearce and Guyer)

Anal Hershiser: Just a few points out needing wins and saves in my 10 team roto keep forever i traded Machado and Fernandez for a haul- Murphy, Franco, Scherzer, Arrieta, Jansen and Osuna. I know I got plenty for this year, but how much will I regret this long term? May just keep Franco, Scherzer, Arrieta. Murphy is on the fence.

Brad Johnson: Arcia will steal some bases, and it’s not like he was bad at Triple-A

Brad Johnson: his skill set is singles, plate discipline, and running

Brad Johnson: it’s not all that exciting fantasy wise

Brad Johnson: Lindor 2.0 is a pipe dream, there’s no looming power outbreak

Russell Archer: Do you figure the reason some teams who should’ve sold (Phils, Braves, possibly Astros) that didn’t figure they can wait for the winter where the SP market is, well, headlined by Brett Anderson?

Brad Johnson: For the Phillies specifically, I think Klentak was proving he wouldn’t back down when he believed in his asking price

Brad Johnson: I don’t think the Braves held anybody they could have traded

Brad Johnson: I mean they could have dealt Teheran, but he’s probably more valuable to them

Brad Johnson: For all I complain about pitchers imploding, you do need to gamble on some of them

Brad Johnson: only because I think Bregman’s going to get demoted once Gurriel is ready

Joel: I traded Goldy for Harper in the middle of May. Make me feel better.

Brad Johnson: I have a deal in principle for Goldy. It’s a weird one

Brad Johnson: I’m the rebuilding owner, and I’m sending $8 Mazara, VMart, Solarte, $15 Matz, and $22 Archer for $43 Goldy, $8 Bedrosian (assuming he gets CL job), and cuts.

Brad Johnson: My roster is overloaded with $8 studs like Story, Lamb, Dahl, Benintendi, Bregman, Contreras, Profar ($8 is the minimum keeper price).

RE2PECT: Question about fantasy and real life: Does Miller assume the full-time closer role? He’s clearly the better pitcher but might he be more valuable as a high leverage 7/8th/multiple inning guy? How does Tito tend to handle these things?

Bob Dobolina: I’m currently running with a sizable closer crew of Robertson, Allen, Oh, Harris, Herrera and a freshly acquired Watson. Do I drop any of those guys for Diaz? Harris and Allen seem like big question marks right now, but seems too early to jump ship on either.

Brad Johnson: too many strikeouts, but as Story has shown us, you can be a top 15 player with too many K if your home is Coors

Brad Johnson: Obviously we need to see Pence play some, but I’m cautiously optimistic he’ll be fine

JP: My friend curses every player he touches in fantasy baseball. His players all end up getting hurt. He just traded for Rizzo in a fair trade. As a Cub fan, is this vetoable?
