Brad Johnson Baseball Chat: 7/24/2018

We chatted! Transcript below. First, some generic advice. With a little over two months left in the season, forget about where players rank. All that matters is:

1. How do players you receive affect your chances of winning?
2. How do the players you give up affect your rivals chances of winning?

That’s really just about it. Keeper and dynasty formats have additional considerations, but those tend to be league specific.

4:01
Brad Johnson: Hey folks

4:01
Brad Johnson: Let’s get this started with a bad trade

4:01
Phamtastic: Brad I try to be open to all trades in my league but I cant help get a little irritated about this one. N.Goodrum, Eduardo Escobar, and N.Castellanos for Alex Bregman and Javy Baez. Am I just being overly dramatic here?  (14 team, H2H, 5×5, redraft) Thanks!

4:01
Brad Johnson: No, that’s an unconscionable trade

4:02
Brad Johnson: I assume the guy trading for Casty and Goodrum is a Tigers fan?

4:02
Brad Johnson: If not, then it’s extra super unconscionable

4:02
Brad Johnson: Probably should be vetoed. I almost never say that

4:02
Tony G: Been hanging on to Devenski hoping for saves. Is it safe to drop him now given his recent shoddiness and likelihood that the Astros add a top reliever?

4:02
Brad Johnson: Yes, if he’s on your roster for saves, he’s not likely to get ’em

4:03
Brad Johnson: And I think he tires out around this time of year. Did it last season too.

4:03
Pio: Is Wil Myers for real?

4:03
Brad Johnson: As in a breakout? No. I see him as exactly what he always is… which includes hot and cold streaks.

4:04
Brad Johnson: That’s a nice fantasy asset if you ignore the longstanding injury issues.

4:04
Desperate, Confused Marlins Fan: 10 team H2H. I offered Nelson Cruz and Jorge Polanco for Wil Myers and Brian Dozier. Fair? who wins that?

4:04
Brad Johnson: Myers/Dozier is the stronger side

4:04
Pio: How is Mejia’s stock affected by the move to San Diego?

4:05
Brad Johnson: I think it’s slightly improved. People had this idea that he would DH in Cleveland which was always an absurd idea

4:05
Brad Johnson: and they had better catchers. So he was basically Blake Swihart there. In San Diego, he’ll play.

4:05
Rob: When do you think Vlad Jr gets called up? Is it a sure enough thing to stash him in a shallow-er league?

4:05
Brad Johnson: I don’t think it’ll happen this year.

4:06
Brad Johnson: I won’t rule it out, but it’s easier for them to control him the extra season if his season ends in September. Plus there are actual physical benefits to that

4:06
Brad Johnson: Then they call him up mid-April

4:06
Brad Johnson: If he hadn’t gotten hurt, he might have forced the issue.

4:07
Dieter Von Wolfhausen: 10 team dynsasty with k/9, whip, hold and saves as seperate cats…

missed out on all the good closers and have:
bud norris and iglesias, with ottavino, scott alexander, and yates as my other RP’s.

boxberger, wade davis, jiminez, jordan hicks, moronta, familia, tepera and soria are available

Replace bud norris with one of the above?

4:07
Brad Johnson: Yes. Davis is my first pick. He won’t be replaced/lose his job in less than a week.

4:07
Brad Johnson: Plus he handcuffs well with Ottavino

4:08
Brad Johnson: Igelsias and Yates are very good fwiw

4:08
San Dzymborski: hi brad

4:08
Brad Johnson: hai

4:08
Kev: Good time to pick up Cano? What are your expectations ROS for him?

4:08
Brad Johnson: Yes. Normal Cano minus 10%

4:08
San Dzymborski: chris archer and sergio romo for jose martinez and carson kelly–who says no?

4:08
Brad Johnson: Rays

4:09
Brad Johnson: But that’s probably barking up the right tree. Toss in a Poncedeleon and maybe there’s something there

4:09
Rupert: Is Willie Calhoun good enough to roster if he gets limited playing time?

4:09
Brad Johnson: Well, it depends on the format

4:09
Brad Johnson: And your roster

4:10
Brad Johnson: You shouldn’t feel like you MUST roster him if it cuts into your competitiveness.

4:10
Orange: How much do you look at xStats for your player evaluations? I traded away Hoskins, because his xStats show he’s over performing.

4:11
Brad Johnson: Honestly, I’m a bit of a laggard with adopting xStats. I haven’t been presented with any evidence that they’re more effective than the usual FanGraphs stat suite

4:11
Brad Johnson: I use them as a second source

4:11
Brad Johnson: I’m most interested in players who xStats like more than FanGraphs stats and vice versa

4:11
Matt: What you thinking about D Rodriguez? Is that a bubble that is soon to pop, or is he worth trying to pick up and ride out the highs? Looking to fill a rotation that is quickly failing (Ohtani, Bum, Gibson, Pivetta, Suter…)

4:12
Brad Johnson: A little of both. Too much hard contact to feel comfortable. For comparison, Zach Eflin has similar peripherals except he actually avoids hard contact.

4:12
Brad Johnson: I think Dereck could run into some trouble. That said, starts at AT&T Park are helpful

4:12
here goes nothing: Is Rich Hill going to be worth $4 over the stretch run? Or should I target someone who seems more reliable…say, CC, Derek Holland, Dereck Rodriguez

4:12
Brad Johnson: I’d go with Hill

4:13
The Man With No Name: Justin Mason thinks Seager is a very overrated dynasty asset due to back problems and pending move off SS.  Do you share his concern?  There’s no way he’s outside the top 5, right?

4:13
Brad Johnson: He might be outside the top 5 because SS is simply crazy. Was talking about Seager earlier on Patreon. His production isn’t ideal for 5×5 fantasy

4:13
Brad Johnson: But he’s a stud in FGpts ottoneu

4:14
Brad Johnson: Let’s see…

4:14
Brad Johnson: Some combination of Lindor/Machado/Correa then Turner then Story then Seager/Gregorious/Bogaerts in some order

4:15
Brad Johnson: With some prospects like Tatis in the conversation too

4:15
Brad Johnson: I will say this, his position is irrelevant to his value

4:16
Brad Johnson: Moving to 3B may even help. I know I have a harder time at 3B/CI

4:16
Hannah Hochevar: AL Only: Drop Ken Giles for Ryan Pressley (or equivalent), or am I holding him at that replacement level? Thanks!

4:16
Brad Johnson: I really like Pressly. It depends how proactive you need to be since Pressly is the Twins best reliever but also apparently stuck behind Hildenberger if Rodney is traded

4:17
Brad Johnson: Giles *might* be traded somewhere he can close

4:17
Adam: Concerns about Carlos Martinez?  Assuming he only misses the one turn, would you prefer him or Nick Kingham ROS in the standard SP categories?

4:17
Brad Johnson: Yes but still prefer him to Kingham

4:17
Brad Johnson: Nothing specific, it’s just never good when a pitcher seems like he’s dealing with multiple injuries.

4:17
Brad Johnson: Even if they’re minor

4:17
GoMs: Start Buehler@ PHI tomorrow?

4:18
Brad Johnson: I think so, it’s not without risk obviously

4:18
Adam: Is Walker Buehler likely to get enough starts to be 10-team relevant ROS?

4:18
Brad Johnson: I don’t have a read on how they plan to use him. Assuming he’s on a 5 day schedule, then use him until he’s done. If they try to space him out, that’s when it could get painful

4:19
JFL19: Do you think Garrett Cooper could be a major sleeper in all formats next year?  I heard his trackman readouts are nuts

4:19
Brad Johnson: In super deep, sure.

4:19
tacopocket: I’m way below innings in my 5X5 12 man roto league….on pace for 1430 (limit is 1600).  I’ve picked up a few guys so now I have 9 starters.  Is that enough to get me close to the 1600??

4:20
Brad Johnson: Let’s see, it’s been about 2/3 of the season so you’ve thrown about 940 IP. Which means you need 660 RoS

4:20
Brad Johnson: 9 SP projects to about 530 IP, assuming 6 IP per start

4:20
Brad Johnson: which may be high

4:21
Brad Johnson: then I assume you have some RP too. They should give you about 100 IP

4:21
Brad Johnson: So just short

4:21
Justin: I just dropped Gary Sanchez in a keeper league.

4:21
Brad Johnson: I assume his price was unkeepable

4:21
I <3 dentists: Delino Deshields got demoted to AAA!!! I am a sad panda. Steals are scarce in my 14-team mixed roto league; is it wise to hold on to DDS until September call-ups

4:21
Brad Johnson: I’d hold for at least a week. This might be part procedural move

4:22
Brad Johnson: I don’t think we’ll need to wait until September

4:23
Remo: Melancon get the closer job soon or is he toast for this year.

4:23
Brad Johnson: I don’t think he’s anywhere near it

4:23
Neal: Recently had a trade vetoed where I gave up Goldy for Bellinger, Dee Gordon, and Kenley Jansen. 10 team std H2H, keep 5. Can’t figure out why that would be vetoed or what I should do next. Advice?

4:24
Brad Johnson: That is perplexing. I’d quit the league over that.

4:24
Brad Johnson: I’m always looking for an excuse to drop a league though

4:24
Brad Johnson: You might not share that problem

4:25
Am I Crazy: Was offered Harper for Juan Soto straight up in a 10-team 5×5 keeper.  I’m leaning against it, am I crazy?  My other OFs are Betts, Stanton and Blackmon…

4:25
Brad Johnson: Depends on the keeper rules

4:26
Brad Johnson: I turned down Giancarlo and Rizzo for Soto today

4:26
Brad Johnson: And Giancarlo, Strasburg, Kluber, and Wade Davis for Soto and Benintendi

4:26
Brad Johnson: But…

4:27
Brad Johnson: I have a perfect 60 score in offense. Giancarlo isn’t keepable. Soto costs $8/$15/$22/.etc

4:27
Brad Johnson: Benintendi is $22 to keep

4:27
Brad Johnson: None of the guys offered to me were keepable

4:27
Brad Johnson: So… it didn’t make sense

4:27
Ramos Rescue Rangers: Brad,

4:27
Brad Johnson: Ramos,

4:27
Ramos Rescue Rangers: In a 13 hitter (MI, CI, CF 4 OF), 8 Pitcher spot 12 team h2h league, is it wise to keep a $45 Altuve $35 Betts, $35 Blackmon $21 Ramirez, $36 Kluber, $28 Verlander, $14 Severino and $12 Morton and just run scrubs in my other spots next year?

4:27
Brad Johnson: Yes

4:28
Brad Johnson: Of course, reevaluate at the end of the season

4:28
Brad Johnson: The pitchers could asplode, Altuve might not merit the $45, etc.

4:28
HappyFunBall: re: your dynasty SS rankings … there are plenty of leagues where Bregman and/or Baez maintain SS eligibility also.  It’s shockingly deep

4:28
Brad Johnson: Right, forgot them

4:29
CNB: Are you a Mondesi fan? Is .270 and 30 HR+SB a reasonable dream?

4:29
Brad Johnson: I don’t think he can make enough contact

4:30
Chuck Morton: I’ve talked about retirement but will I really turn down a boat load of money next year?  Where do you see me ending up if I play?

4:30
Brad Johnson: Houston or Philadelphia I suspect.

4:30
Chicos: what do you think of Eugenio Suarez the ROS and the next few years.  Top 5 3B with 30HR, 100RBI and .290avg?

4:30
Brad Johnson: That’s pushing it quite a bit…

4:30
Brad Johnson: He’s quite good, but that’s probably his absolute upside

4:31
Randy: Better dynasty asset, Acuna or Vlad Jr?

4:31
Brad Johnson: That’s the question, isn’t it?

4:31
Brad Johnson: I’ll say Acuna for the early career steals. Could easily be wrong

4:31
DatDudeJG: Rest of season–David Peralta, Yuli Gurriel, Nick Markakis, Jesse Winker?  Rank them and do you feel any could be REAL good?  Thanks!

4:31
Brad Johnson: Winker is a stud

4:31
Brad Johnson: Gurriel, Peralta, Markakis to round it out

4:32
Brad Johnson: Gurriel seems to finally be over his injury

4:32
Dave: Thoughts on Eddie Rosario?  Is 30hr/15sb/.300avg attainable?   Is this who he really is?  Thanks!

4:32
Brad Johnson: The 30ish HR are real. Not so sure about the AVG and shouldn’t expect too much running

4:32
Brad Johnson: He was 9 for 17 last year

4:32
Rub my Belly-inger: Looking to get a little playoff push and one of the guys in the league is willing to move Bellinger and/or Hoskins. Who’s the target this season and next (can keep at roughly the same price)?

4:33
Brad Johnson: Can’t go wrong with either

4:33
Dave: Does Fangraphs have a keeper league rankings list? Where?

4:33
Brad Johnson: As somebody who has been tasked with creating dynasty rankings in the past, such a tool is useless, misleading, and unhelpful

4:34
Brad Johnson: I can create keeper or dynasty rankings for one specific format with either a contender, tweener, or rebuild lens

4:35
Brad Johnson: So say we’re looking at a 20 team dynasty. One set of rankings would apply to 6 contenders, another 6 get the tweener list since they’re a couple Muncy’s from contending, the rest get a list of 25 and unders

4:36
Brad Johnson: Since there isn’t even a “standard” keeper or dynasty format, I can only cater to about 1% of readers with a rankings list.

4:36
Brad Johnson: And it’s difficult to even signal WHICH 1% I’ve catered too

4:36
Brad Johnson: Better to teach skills

4:36
Shane: In a dynasty league. Currently in second. I need some saves badly. Is minor leaguer eligible Devers for Kimbrel a fair deal?

4:37
Brad Johnson: Vast overpay, depending on the league depth. The shallower the league, the more this works. I would look for cheaper saves and suffer the ratio pain

4:37
Tony Plush: What do you think of Skaggs, is this the ceiling or more room to grow?

4:38
Brad Johnson: He’s pitching at his current ceiling, but he could also grow. Granted, if he gets better, he probably won’t actually post improved stats

4:38
Brad Johnson: He’s not a 2.68 ERA pitcher

4:38
Brad Johnson: More like a 3.70 ERA

4:38
Barnard: What sort of return should I be seeking out for Manny Machado (12-tm keep forever)? Would Javier Baez+Matt Chapman be reasonable or should I push for more?

4:39
Brad Johnson: I’m not as in on Baez as some. I love his baseball acumen, but the plate discipline and whiff rate will always scare me away

4:39
Brad Johnson: I’d love to bank the production he’s had, but I don’t feel confident he won’t revert to a 100 wRC+ with bad OBP

4:40
Henry: Do you see a “second half” surge from Carlos Santana? Seems like he has had a lot of bad luck.

4:40
Brad Johnson: If you’re referring to BABIP, he passes the smell test as a low-BABIP guy

4:40
Brad Johnson: Maybe not .207 BABIP, but .240?

4:40
Brad Johnson: That said, I think he’s having a nice season, especially in OBP

4:41
Mad for Max: Who do you keep? Acuna or Muncy?

Roto R/HR/RBI/SB/AVG/OPS

4:41
Brad Johnson: You actually have to decide between them?

4:41
Brad Johnson: Acuna

4:42
Dave: Any chance Felix Pena is allowed to pitch deeper into games? He’s killing me in my quality starts league.

4:42
Brad Johnson: No

4:42
Brad Johnson: It’s not a matter of “allowed”

4:42
Brad Johnson: He can’t pitch deeper into games

4:42
Brad Johnson: Doesn’t have the stuff for it

4:43
Brad Johnson: Best used in short bursts

4:43
Brad Johnson: He’s a reliever in other words, currently tasked with starting

4:43
Chatty McChatterson: Traded Kela for Carlos Martinez in dynasty. I’m rebuilding. Tell me Carlos is gonna be ok next season…

4:43
Brad Johnson: Probably? It’s a fantastic trade for you though

4:43
Brad Johnson: even if the gamble fails, you gotta do that 10 times out of 10

4:44
Boring Boring Bro Dullard: Vince Velasquez just became available (again), should I drop Tyson Ross for him in a 12 team points league, with QS? Thanks!

4:44
Brad Johnson: Instantly

4:44
54: So what you’re saying… is give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he gets a boring hobby. Teach a man to figure out how to value keepers based on his settings, and he gets good at a compelling hobby.

4:44
Brad Johnson: Sounds about right

4:45
Eldridge Cleaver: I got really drunk at my league’s summer outing this weekend and traded Kluber and Jansen for Correa and Seranthony Dominguez.  Correa can be one of my 3 keepers forever.  Should I feel remorse or am I just a little hungover and will get over it?

4:45
Brad Johnson: You won that trade

4:45
Eldridge Cleaver: What is the definition of a “dyansty” league?

4:45
Brad Johnson: That’s a great looking question

4:46
Brad Johnson: So to me, it means over 400 players rostered, over 250 players kept, and a focus on long term roster management.

4:46
Brad Johnson: Others would quibble that shallower formats qualify too if most players are kept year-to-year

4:47
Brad Johnson: The leagues I call dynasty are 20 teamers

4:47
Brad Johnson: I call ottoneu (480+ rostered, about 200 kept) semi-dynasty

4:47
Brad Johnson: it’s more than a keeper, less than a dynasty

4:48
Brad Johnson: but really, I think the defining factor is time horizons – can I plan ahead more than one year. A keeper league still usually rewards a focus on instant gratification. A dynasty requires more patience

4:48
DL Hell: Would you drop Jeff Samardzija in a 16-team H2H Dynasty? We can keep everyone forever and SP are tough to find, but I have Snell, Pineda, W Ramos and now G Sanchez all on DL with only three DL spots.

4:48
Brad Johnson: Can be dropped if you have a target in mind

4:48
Mistake by the Lake: Brantley back with the Tribe next year?

4:48
Brad Johnson: I think not. He’ll be a tad pricey

4:49
Brad Johnson: Might accept a QO though. I dunno.

4:49
Dan: Would you trade Hoskins for Gary Sanchez in a 12 team keep 16, 2-catcher league?  My team is already stacked at the corners and OF, concerned about Gary’s ability to turn it around

4:49
Brad Johnson: Seems just a tad steep to me

4:49
Slamboni: You worried about Gary Sanchez? I’m worried that these injuries may limit him to being a DH. That and he’s not exactly a world class defensive catcher. If he stopped catching, wouldn’t he lose all fantasy appeal?

4:49
Brad Johnson: He’d be a better Evan Gattis

4:49
Brad Johnson: and he’d probably shift in and out of C eligibility like Gattis

4:50
Brad Johnson: I’m not too worried about these specific concerns. I do think he has to shift out of everyday catching in the near future for health reasons

4:50
Dan: Would Nimmo + Clevinger be enough to get Dozier? How about Jose Abreu + Clevinger?

4:51
Brad Johnson: Should be more than enough

4:51
Brad Johnson: If you catch my meaning

4:51
Ender times?: Would you drop Inciarte in order to add Winker? Steals is a category but I am doing OK there. Could use RBI’s though.

4:51
Brad Johnson: Oh that’s a tough one. Probably not, pending league depth.

4:51
Nick: At what point do we get worried about Correa’s Back when he is our most valuable dynasty asset?

4:52
Brad Johnson: 2020?

4:52
Brad Johnson: Don’t concern yourself yet

4:52
Brad Johnson: He’ll probably rehab it over the winter

4:52
Brad Johnson: The Astros have the depth to rest him more regularly which obviously isn’t ideal but could lead to better production

4:52
Brad Johnson: So expect to see him at a 140 GP pace next year

4:52
YOYO: My Nelson Cruz and Archie Bradley in a 12 team holds and OBP league for Carlos Santana and Eugenio Suarez?

4:52
Brad Johnson: Sure

4:53
O….K: So then let’s get specific!  Where’s Seager rank in Ottoneu 4×4, ignoring rest-of-2017?

4:53
Brad Johnson: Sorry, I don’t play 4×4. I don’t have anything internalized for that format.

4:53
Erie Feeling: Why do the Indians refuse to get a CF or RF year after year? Window is closing!

4:54
Brad Johnson: They had a great CF. He, uh, forgot how to hit then his shoulder died

4:54
Brad Johnson: Could be related

4:54
Brad Johnson: And Chisenhall looked like he was breaking out last year

4:54
Brad Johnson: So I’d call this bad luck, not bad process

4:55
Maples: Dynasty points league: Johnny Cueto and Thairo Estrada for Travis Shaw?

4:55
Brad Johnson: Shaw

4:55
Al: Max Muncy over/under 2018 homers – 38?

4:55
Brad Johnson: Under

4:55
Brad Johnson: easy under bet

4:55
Brad Johnson: Not impossible to get there, but unlikely

4:55
Al: Got offered Gary Sanchez and Edwin Encarnacion for my Willson Contreras and Jake Bauers in a redraft 12 team h2h league (5 x 5 + OPS & holds). Should I accept if i’m confident of making the playoffs even without Sanchez?

4:55
Brad Johnson: I think so

4:56
Brad Johnson: I think Bauers is waiver fodder in that format though

4:56
Brad Johnson: so it looks like Willson for EE and Sanchez to me

4:56
Brad Johnson: I know others like Bauers more

4:56
Asking for a friend: I like the bold prediction re Conforto. Would you take him over Ozuna ROS?

4:56
Brad Johnson: I think so

4:56
Brad Johnson: Similar assets

4:57
Brad Johnson: and I do like that the Cardinals aren’t hopeless

4:57
Metal Spikes : Ok, so I traded Kemp for Robbie Ray a few days ago.  Did I make a huge mistake?

4:57
Brad Johnson: Nah

4:57
Brad Johnson: Kemp is a 0-for-18 away from losing considerable playing time

4:57
FLANSTER: Winker Sitting out tonight with sore shoulder—anything to worry about?

4:57
Brad Johnson: No idea yet. I saw that too.

4:57
Brad Johnson: Until I hear otherwise, I’ll assume he’s fine

4:57
Rocco: What are your thoughts on Kingham, Felix Pena, and Musgrove ROS?  Any more than a streamer?

4:58
Brad Johnson: Kingham might be a little above the streamer line depending on format.

4:58
Rocco: Hi Brad – how would you rank Kole Calhoun, Avisail Garcia, and Aaron Hicks ROS?   Not for keeper value – just most impact for my championship run

4:58
Brad Johnson: hicks, Calhoun, Avi

4:58
Metal Spikes : Trea or Bregman ROS……Who wins

4:58
Brad Johnson: Do you need SB?

4:58
Brad Johnson: It’s Bregman if you don’t

4:59
Brad Johnson: If you do, then it’s Turner. Because nobody but Betts, Trout, and Ramirez offers that production without killing other categories

4:59
Felipe: Thoughts on Ryan Braun and Adrian Beltre? Experts seem to have high opinions of them both still despite poor production

4:59
Brad Johnson: history has taught us to bet on a rebound until it doesn’t happen

5:00
Kevin Steger: So, one of my league mates said that if I traded him Chris Sale, he would set me up with his sister.  He’s willing to give me Blackmon and I guess his sister for Sale.  Do I do it?

5:00
Brad Johnson: lel

5:00
Brad Johnson: I don’t think half of that trade is enforceable

5:01
Brad Johnson: Blackmon for Sale passes a smell test in redraft, assuming you need hitting and have pitching to spare

5:01
Mad Max: I just got Scherzer in my 16 tm H2H leagur where we keep 3 then redraft. Since its not a dynasty im wondering how many more solid years we get from him?

5:01
Brad Johnson: He’s at an age where I don’t look more than 10 starts ahead

5:01
Slamboni: Re: Gary Sanchez would you trade 5 years of Gary and 2 years of E Suarez for 5 years of Contreras and either 1 year of JA Happ or 3 years of Kenta Maeda?

5:01
Brad Johnson: I absolutely would not

5:02
Henry: Will Osuna come back and be a top 5 Closer in 2019?

5:02
Brad Johnson: Not quite

5:02
Brad Johnson: but close

5:02
Swipe Right on Pinder?: Does Chad Pinder warrant a spot in a 16-team league with 27 man rosters? I don’t know how his playing time is going to shake out but I traded Erick Fedde for him.

5:02
Brad Johnson: Yes

5:02
Chris Smith: Wrong FG feature, but CALL YOUR SHOT: Tim Anderson is basically Trea Turner (they’re even only ~7 days apart in age!).

5:02
Brad Johnson: RONG

5:02
Brad Johnson: so rong

5:02
Brad Johnson: Tim Anderson, in his best season, still can’t OBP his way out of a wet bag

5:03
54: Expectations for Ervin Santana? Low K/9 SP with a velo drop that has been outworking his peripherals for years… is he a pass, or worth picking up and giving a short leash?

5:03
Brad Johnson: Stash or stream

5:03
No Pop Ups: Does Votto hit 25 homers this year??  He’s currently at 9!!!!

5:03
Brad Johnson: He probably does not

5:03
Brad Johnson: Not much time to pop 16

5:03
Jimbo: Keeper decision to make: is Devers a top-10 3B next year in a TB/OBP league?

5:04
Brad Johnson: Off the top of my head, not quite

5:04
Brad Johnson: Let me look

5:04
Brad Johnson: Yea, not quite

5:04
Brad Johnson: But you might not use Ramirez or Bregman at 3B

5:05
Brad Johnson: Which would bump up Devers

5:05
Henry: Jose Ramirez is a consensus number 2 pick next year?

5:05
Brad Johnson: Consensus? No.

5:05
Brad Johnson: We’re going to have a bunch of wiseasses taking Ramirez or Betts ahead of Trout. Enough to make the 1st three picks real interesting

5:06
Tim: Not sure how involved you are in this, but any guesses as to why Fangraphs and PECOTA have such a different projection for the Nationals/

5:06
Brad Johnson: I tend to lose focus on actual baseball standings until late in the season

5:06
Brad Johnson: Too much day to day maintenance of my own teams

Brad Johnson: My guess is that one site really doesn’t like certain Juan Sotos and one does

5:07
Brad Johnson: The model for projecting standings is similar, all that’s different is the input from the projection systems used

5:07
Hannah Hochevar: Brian Goodwin in KC going to go back to being good?

5:08
Brad Johnson: I’ll lean no, but I’d love to take a flier or two in a deep league

5:08
Keep 3 next year: Bellinger Acuña Pollock Albies Abreu Scherzer Chapman

5:08
Brad Johnson: I’m so sorry you have to choose

5:08
Brad Johnson: Assuming no costs and you do this every year, Acuna, Albies, Belly

5:08
Brad Johnson: Could replace Bellinger with Scherzer if you want to lock in an ace

5:08
Chris Smith: loved your response!  i agree, of course (hence the hot take).  It’s funny looking at their respective season lines to date, though!

5:08
Brad Johnson: re: Anderson/Turner

5:09
O….K: Who ya got in 2019 – Contreras or Realmuto? (OBP league and no SB)

5:09
Brad Johnson: Contreras

5:09
vft: Is JD a first rounder next year?

5:09
Brad Johnson: Probably not

5:09
Brad Johnson: And it’s not because he hasn’t shown consistent first round skills

5:10
Brad Johnson: Age, injury, and absurd star power league wide will push him outside the top 12

5:10
Brad Johnson: He’s in the top 20 for sure though

5:10
tacopocket: long chat…..thanks

5:10
Brad Johnson: And on that note… it’s time to do real world things

5:10
Brad Johnson: Let’s wrap it up

5:10
Who’s Better ROS?: Margot or Nimmo?

5:10
Brad Johnson: Nimmo

5:10
Brad Johnson: Margot could turn into a post-hype stud though

5:10
Brad Johnson: We’ll see

5:11
O….K: 2019 – Verlander or Kluber?

5:11
Brad Johnson: I’ll say Kluber today

5:11
Brad Johnson: Ask me again if he keeps sucking for 2 months

5:11
EG: Dynasty 12 team roto. Which guy has more value? Baez at $6/7/8 the next 3 years or muncy at $4/5/6 the next 3 years.

5:11
Brad Johnson: The steals versus the OBP skillz

5:12
Brad Johnson: I’m going to punt and not actually pick one.

5:12
Brad Johnson: You should be very happy with either player

5:12
Scott Kingery: Am I going to turn it around this year or will everyone have to wait until next year?

5:12
Brad Johnson: He’s slowly improving

5:12
Big Dog: My Bellinger for his Votto…..Is that an insult if I offer it to him?

5:12
Brad Johnson: Absolutely not

5:12
Brad Johnson: Unless it’s OBP

5:13
Brad Johnson: Thanks for coming to play! See ya next week

5:13
Blue Light Sale at CMart: Cody Allen and AJ Minter for Carlos Martinez? Is that too light on either side?

5:13
Brad Johnson: Yea. I’d take CMart over the closers in a vacuum. The saves could be very meaningful to the standings though.
