Roto Riteup: April 9, 2016

It is the first full weekend of baseball! Watch out for rain delays and managers pulling pitchers during a no-hitter. Read the rest of this entry »

AL Outfielders: The Undrafted

Drafts are over and the season is officially here. We are looking at the teams we drafted with pride, believing that this will be our year. We have forgotten about those poor souls that were left behind. Yes, I am talking about the undrafted players. The guys that sit on our waiver wires untouched, hoping for a chance to enter our lineups. They are praying that an owner may sign them to a deal. Read the rest of this entry »

AL Tiered Outfielder Ranks: Preseason 2016

Here we go! It is time for the first installment of America’s favorite game: AL Outfielder Tiers! This is my first attempt at doing this, so while I don’t expect any sympathy, please don’t crush my hopes and spirit if I forget a name. Remember, ranks and tiers tend to be subjective and we are in this together for the next six to seven months. Read the rest of this entry »

Roto Riteup: March 21, 2016

For those of you that don’t know me, I am one of the newest writers to Rotographs and I was bestowed the honor of being the fill-in for this marvelous series. If you have read my work, whether here or on my other site, I will attempt to offer some of my usual flair while obviously being a tad bit more serious here than I am in the intros on my weekly pieces or podcast. Big thanks to Eno and Paul for bringing me aboard, Zach for tolerating me, and to David Wiers for vacating his parking spot. Read the rest of this entry »

Justin Mason’s 10 Bold Predictions

I am a huge San Francisco Giants fan. However, if you have followed my work prior to joining Rotographs, you know I hate Gregor Blanco. I will explain further. Read the rest of this entry »

How to Mess Up a Mock in 23 Rounds

It was 2:16pm on a Thursday afternoon. I was sitting on my couch, watching a DVR’d episode of Better Call Saul, when I got the DM that would unknowingly change the course of (the next few hours of) my life. Read the rest of this entry »

AL Outfielder: Rookies

Years ago, I bought a nice set of knives for my wife and I was extremely excited to give it to her. She had been complaining about ours and these were a nice professional set. As Christmas approached, I began to pat myself on the back for nailing the gift. She had expressed a need for them, we had set a dollar amount limit on what we could spend for each other and I had gotten them for an amazing deal. Christmas day came and she opened up her present. She looked me squarely in the eye and said “Why?” That’s how I feel about the Rangers signing Ian Desmond. Read the rest of this entry »

What is BARF? Bay Area Roto-Fantasy

The worst kept secret in the fantasy sports industry is that the people in it are amazing. A little over a year ago, with the help of some friends (with fantasy benefits), I entered the industry with a silly little podcast, a website, and no real expectations that it would ever turn into anything more than a hobby. I was pleasantly surprised to find out how helpful and encouraging the majority of the fantasy industry is. No one ever said no to an appearance. I was given a ton of advice on what works and what doesn’t in the industry. You read what these people write and listen to what they have to say, but what you don’t realize is that they are just as cool in real life as they appear to be from the outside. Cheap Speed: Breaking Bad Style

I have spent the last few weeks rewatching Breaking Bad. For those who have never watched it, it is arguably the greatest show of all time. It is the classic story of a high school chemistry teacher that gets terminal cancer and becomes a drug kingpin to make sure he leaves something behind for his family. Let’s be honest, the story of Walter White could be any of us, minus the drugs, Mexican cartels, violence, terminal cancer, money, and ability to make thermite in our kitchen. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Harper

This is the classic tale of good versus evil. Is the man in question truly the good natured doctor or the dreaded monster? There are clues along the way that must be examined but, no matter what the evidence suggests, it will be up to the man himself to prove who he really is. It is rare that the audience is rooting for the monster, but that in fact is the case. Read the rest of this entry »
