2026 New Year’s Resolutions for Fantasy

A new year is upon us and this is often a time we make resolutions to improve ourselves and our lives for the upcoming year. Often these are forgotten or left unfulfilled, but I think they represent our hopes, dreams, and ambitions. At worst we are acknowledging what we need or want to change, which is an admirable exercise. With that said, here are my Fantasy Baseball New Year’s Resolutions for 2026!

  • Remember it is just a game

I am extremely competitive. I want to win every league and will spend countless hours trying to do just that. It often leads me to feeling burnt out. Ultimately, we play this game because it is fun and sometimes I forget that it is supposed to be fun. I want to do more things that amp up the fun for myself and the people I play with.

  • Play in Fewer Leagues

I had this on my list last year and it was one of the ones I actually was able to fully accomplish. I want to keep it going. I love drafting and playing in leagues, but it becomes a chore by the time I get to summer. I would love to have the time and energy to keep playing in 20+ leagues every year, but I don’t any longer. I want the league I do play to mean something to me and to enjoy playing in them. I will never be the guy that only plays in one or two leagues, but getting closer to single digits would make my life easier and make things more fun for me.

  • Grow My Content

For a few years now, I have wanted to do more with my content. I love what I already do, but there is more that I have yet to learn or accomplish. I would like to learn video editing to further increase the mediums I can post on. I have also been more stagnant in the last couple of years on social media which is something I would like to rectify. While doing this, I don’t want to be so singularly focused. I have interests outside of baseball that I would like to start using for content.

  • Try New Things

I have often got stuck in a rut doing the same things over and over in life and in fantasy. I want to try new things in fantasy baseball and in my content. Maybe it’s trying different formats or new types of games. Maybe it’s different ways of delivering content. I want to get out of my comfort zone and broaden my horizons.

  • Enjoy the Season

During the season, I often get so concerned with my teams and the content I am providing, I don’t sit and watch games just for the enjoyment of them. I love watching baseball and need to spend the time just watching games for the love of it. I spent some time this year at watch parties and really enjoyed them. I want to make sure I am doing things like that as often as I can.

  • Get My 2026 Projections Done Faster

I feel like I struggle every year to get my projections down before the end of the calendar year which puts me behind schedule on everything else. I want to pledge to start them earlier after the season and finish them before the change to the New Year.

  • Get To More Live Games

With my schedule, it’s hard to get to a lot of games, but I miss doing so. There is nothing like the sights and sounds of live baseball. I am about an hour from San Francisco and 90 minutes from Sacramento. I am going to make it a priority to make those journeys more often.

  • Passion Write More

I love to write, but I often get stuck writing the same things because of the beats I am on in the various places I work. What I don’t get to do as much is write more freely and explore unusual topics. I love what I get to do and the opportunities I have been given, but I also need to find new and better ways to express myself in ways that are truly me.

  • Get Organized

I love spreadsheets, but I have not been great about getting things organized for my in-season management with them. I have already started to build spreadsheets to organize things like my writing and podcasting schedule, work assignments, and home chores, but I am terrible about sticking with them. I need to work on ways to keep myself on track and schedule so when things inevitably get busy, I don’t struggle to keep up with my work or teams.

  • Remember What Is Important

While this is last on the list, it is the most important thing. Fantasy is a huge part of my life, but it is not the most important thing. In order to advance in the fantasy industry, I have sacrificed a lot of things, but most importantly, I have taken time away from my wife and children in order to do everything I do. That must change in 2026. I still plan on delivering a lot of content, but they come first and I don’t want my chasing my dream to be the reason I miss out on the things that truly matter. My wife and kids don’t care if I win a league or have a great podcast. They want me to be there when life happens and I need to make that the biggest priority.

This is really great! As a parent with young kids who shares a worry about work taking too much time away from my kids AND as someone who made a similar resolution a year ago, I had success by committing to being a volunteer for my kid’s classroom (class parent). It meant I had to be present and involved and not just in things I like (sports) but involved in everyday stuff (supporting classroom birthdays, finding field trip chaperones). It also made me more excited to help assist with coaching in sports in the years ahead.
