I picked up Ben Brown in a bunch of leagues based on pedigree and chasing some wins. After listening to this episode, I was ready to explore moving him, but I decided to dig into his Savant page first and I think you should give him another look…

Savant shows distinct pitch mixes using three pitches for both sides of the plate. Sinker/Curve/Four-Seam for right and Four-Seam/Curve/Change for left. I get you want to combine the fast balls vs. righties, but he’s mostly throwing sinkers (41% vs R) and using the four-seamer to change the batter’s eye level for putaways (+6% putaway% compared to vs. lefties where the four-seamer is his primary offering). Sequencing a four-seamer also serves to better setup the curve for the putaway vs. R and keep batters off-balance.

IMO – there is a plan (and it is getting results), so now I’m ready to buy him in the leagues I don’t already have him. Thanks for discussing him and getting me to look into him a little deeper!
