Starting Pitcher 2026 Fantasy Rankings Update #2 – June 5th, 2026

I’ll be in the comments answering questions and discussing changes!
Focus more on tier differences over rankings differences within a given tier. Sure, the top and bottom of a tier can be discussed, but 7-10 rankings within the same tier isn’t a huge split to me and comparing them would likely come down to short-term matchups.
Aces
The cream of the crop. The pitchers who never come out of the rotation regardless of matchup.
Aces

Must Start
These guys are essentially fantasy aces in their own right. Cutting them would take months (barring injury) and benching would be remarkably rare (waning skills for multiple starts + inj. concern could result in skipping a start)

Splitting hairs a bit here, but this is a smaller group between must starts and team streamers. You’re looking for reasons to start them and need a very strong reason to bench them.

Team Streamer
These are elevated streamers where you don’t necessarily run every start, but they hit the bench when they’re not playing because they’re too talented to throw back on the wire.

Thanks Paul! Where does Dylan Cease fit into this rankings? His injury doesn’t appear to be very serious and may be back next week, so thought you’d have an evaluation on him.
Ya I literally just saw he’s expected back next week. Just in his normal Must Start spot, nothing crazy
Any thoughts on some of the injured Aces? Brown, Greene, Ragans, Cease, Skubal, Crochet, Glasnow? Any of those that you’d buy on because you are optimistic about their near-term recovery, or any you are a hard sell on if someone will pay up for a damaged name?
Thank you Paul this is great and useful. Same for Woodruff?
Does Jared Jones have a big up arrow? Any hope for Bradish to improve or is this who he is this year?
I know you like Gavin Williams and Kyle Harrison but dayyyyum.
Yes re: Jones. I’m certainly open to a big jump next month if we see him stabilize. I just couldn’t jump him into the 30s or higher until we some starts going. Enjoyed his breakout 2024 and think he has real upside, but off an entire missed season, I need more than 2 starts (1 of which stunk) to slot him back to 2024 heights.
I think Bradish has improved as the year has gone on, his last one notwithstanding. In fact, in between the Duds at NYY and at TOR, he had 2.24 ERA/1.00 WHIP/18% K-BB in 24.3 IP. He’s just not all the way back the way I and others who were drafting him as a Top 20 SP believed off last year’s 6 start sample as his inconsistent control (12% BB) is a hallmark a of a TJ return season.
If Gav hadn’t sharply improved his skills (+8 pts to 21% K-BB), I wouldn’t be skyrocketing him to the Top 15, even as a mega fan. I’m new to the Kyle Harrison Hype Train, but he’s been incredible!!
Frustrating to have 4 of your top 12 but have to probably sell because my hitting is so bad (thanks Ward Langford Seager Maikel Barger, and Teoscar Murakami hamstrings). My QS luck this week has set me back too – Melton and Wheeler got theirs, but Harrison Gilbert Sale and Woo all either 5.x’ed or lost one in the 7th. And my KBB (which is a league stat) keeps hitting an asymptote at 3.00 for some reason.
Sorry for the vent. List looks good to me.
Kyle Bradish and Reid Detmers are both ranked No. 50, but Detmers is in a lower tier. I’m wondering if Detmers tossing six scoreless against the Dodgers last night inches him into the Usually Start tier for you or just further highlights the unpredictability of his gems and duds.
Detmers is strange. Most projection systems have him as a big strikeout pitcher with average control and one flat per 9 home runs allowed…..pretty darn good. But then they suggest he will have an over 4 ERA.
Just a bad LOB% rate. Very fixable. I buy the ERA indicators way more than his >4.00 ERA
lol no idea how they both got 50, tbh. they’re both supposed to be Team Streamers, though, and 1v1 I prefer Detmers
Along these lines, curious why Jose Soriano is ranked so much higher than Detmers? Detmers has the lower xERA, FIP, xFIP, and BB/9, while having a higher K/9 and overall WAR
Nice work I’m surprised Senga’s in standard streamer instead of lottery ticket.
Skubal? He should be back next week!
Yankees and Seattle with entire starting pitching rotations ranked highly. Impressive.
Thanks, Paul. You’re not worried about Skenes?
Not quite enough to move him off 1, but I’m not against the valid arguments to leapfrog someone else given him not being the unquestioned mega king of late. I just haven’t seen anything in these starts to make think it’s more than a blip relative to his greatness.
Baz’s last four have been pretty good.
Thanks for all the work and thought you put into this, Paul, as always!
Re: McClanahan the rate stats have been fantastic, but his workload limitations are really hampering his value in my QS league. Would you expect Cash to start letting him go past 80-85 pitches regularly at any point this season?
There was an article early in the year that they were going to give him the Rasmussen treatment from last year so he may even get skipped at some point to keep his innings down. Haven’t seen anything further like that and they are in the mix for the playoffs so maybe that changes, but I wouldn’t count on him turning into a workhorse this year.
Just for reference, Rasmussen only threw 90 pitches twice last year and never threw more than 92. They’ve let him bump up a little bit this year but he’s still only topped out at 100. They’ve shown they’ll be aggressive in limiting IP for guys with arm injuries, so I suspect that’s what we’re looking at for McClanahan.
It makes senses to exclude guys with long-term injuries, but why have you left SPs who will or should be back this season — i.e. Logan Henderson or Nick Pivetta? Or at least give them their own category with estimated rankings? Would make a good and useful list even better.
So if I have four of your top 25 and 6 of the top 50 in a 10 teamer, I should be good? Side note: Mis is going to kill someone one day if he hits a dude in the face and not the helmet.
