Schedule Beneficiaries by Handedness of Available SPs

We’ll be writing each day up again like last week, but here’s a quick primer on the pitching slate next week for possibly available arms.

*all stats cited for the 2nd half unless otherwise noted

Lefty

Tyler Anderson v. MIA – It is in Coors, but MIA has the 4th-worst wOBA v. lefties (.304) in the second half thanks to just a .126 ISO.

Brent Suter v. CIN – CIN has the 26th wOBA v. lefties (.305).

Sean Newcomb and Max Fried at NYM – The Mets are 23rd in wOBA v. lefties (.310), but also have an MLB-high 27% K rate against them.

Brett Anderson at BOS – He was absolutely trounced his last time out (1.3 IP/8 ER), but a punchless BOS team (.130 ISO v. LHP is 26th in 2H) could foster a rebound. If you’re tied to both starts for him, I’d probably pass because he gets a trip to NYY to end the season and they’re 7th in wOBA (.350).

Wade Miley at TB – The Rays do have the 24th wOBA v.lefties (.308), but Miley is… Miley. He’s allowed 6 ER in each of his last two starts and has a 5.52 ERA on the season. He did have a 3.25 ERA in eight starts before these last two. He has mixed success v. TB this year (7 IP/2 ER in Apr, 6 IP/5 ER in July).

Righty

Marco Estrada at BOS – He won’t be that widely available, but he’s only 55% at ESPN so just in case. He’s closing strong with a 1.67 ERA in his last four and BOS has just a .310 wOBA v. righties (27th).

Gabriel Ynoa at PIT – A big outing against TB last time out will bring Ynoa some attention and he has a great chance to post another gem with PIT toting the 29th wOBA against righties at .308, including a paltry .131 ISO (30th).

Chris Stratton v. SD – Not only is SD just 26th in wOBA v. righties (.314), they’re also 25th in K% at 24%.

Luis Perdomo, Jhoulys Chacin, and Jordan Lyles at SF – I’ve listed these three in the order I’d want them and only included Lyles to avoid questions about him. I don’t actually want him at all, but I’d target the other two. SF sits 28th in wOBA with the 29th ISO at .140.

Parker Bridwell, Ricky Nolasco, and Bud Norris at CWS – The White Sox have the 2nd highest K% at 26% and their .321 wOBA against righties is only 22nd. I’ve listed these three in the order I’d want them and I’m not sure I’d mess with Norris as he’s not really stretched out for more than 65-70 pitches at most.

Josh Tomlin v. CWS – He gets the Sox at home and hasn’t allowed more than 3 ER in any of his last eight starts.

Homer Bailey, Sal Romano, Deck McGuire at MIL – The Brewers have the worst K% against righties at 27% with a .322 wOBA that sits 21st. McGuire hasn’t made a start this month so he’s more in the Lyles/Norris camp of avoiding.

Edwin Jackson v. PIT – Jackson posted a 2.94 ERA in his first eight starts with WAS, but has a horrific 12.38 in four September starts meaning the cozy matchup v. PIT might not matter much. That said, the terrible September has included 2+ HR in all four starts and that’s just not a big part of PIT’s game.

Ubaldo Jimenez and Jeremy Hellickson at TB – TB has been even worse v. RHP with a league-worst .305 wOBA in the second half, but as with Miley, it’s really tough to trust these guys regardless of their matchup.

Again, this is just a pickup primer to get us ready for the week. Further analysis will be provided daily. Keep an eye on our rundowns of the potentially available arms worth streaming.
