Can I make a suggestion / request / comment?
Do you think you guys can be more conscious to repeat a players name throughout a your discussion about that player?
I find that often Paul will say let’s talk about Player X. And then you guys will go into a deep dive discussing Player X, but you have a habit of only referring to the guy as “him” for the rest of the conversation. Especially Eno I notice does this.
It is very easy to miss the initial mention of the guy’s name, especially as I often listen to the podcast while I’m doing something else (like driving or walking). I also sometimes do not listen to the entire pod in one sitting. If you pause mid discussion of a certain player, you tune back in to hear a 10 minute continuation of a discussion about HIS pitch mix, his velocity, where he stands on the rubber, etc. but never actually know it was Adam Ottavino unless if you rewind back to the beginning of the discussion.
I think this might be helpful for a lot of listeners, and I think would be an easy adjustment with just a tiny bit of effort to remember to repeat player’s names instead of always calling a guy “him”.

Hey Daniel,
This is a popular one in the baseball podcasting community as a whole. I’m very conscious of it and make it a focus of re-mentioning guys names. The thing is, it’s awkward to say the name every time and never use pronouns so I gotta balance it making sure it’s a still a real, flowing conversation.
I understand that people are doing things while listening (I’m a huge podcast listener, too), but there’s only so much that can be done on this one. I think some of the onus is on us listeners to pay some attention, too. I find myself rewinding a pod sometimes bc I missed the name, but it’s also bc I was SO engrossed in the other task I was doing. It’s a balancing act, for sure.
I’ll continue to be diligent here.

I love the long episodes…and I think doing 5 and 5 is a good idea as a sequence; it’s also great to hear Eno bringing back “would you rather,” which was a key feature back in the Podhorzer days.
You guys often get deep into starting pitching and bats, but this was the first time you’ve dug a little further into relievers: in fact (unless I missed it) there was no preview in the series you guys did right before the start of the season. Surely many listeners are in holds leagues or are using middle guys for WHIP and K’s, so perhaps more attention is warranted? Though I know you’ve gotten complaints about going to deep, if you’re going to do it, then attention should be spread….
But seriously, great episode, and I love that you guys felt so differently about Kipnis.

Form what it’s worth, I agree that you make an effort to re-mention guys’ names. I think I mentioned that Eno is especially guilty of “him, him, he’s a guy, this guy, him, he”. … From my vantage point, in your role as host, you often let Eno go deeper on the analysis, and that is often where I get lost, and forget who we’re even talking about. Maybe my comment was more pointed at him, but I’m not trying to call anyone out because I do appreciate the great analysis from byou both. I also bet that podcasting is a lot harder than it seems.
Anyway, I just thought it would be a good thing to be conscious of, and I’m glad that you are. Thanks again!
PS. one of my oldest, closest friends shares your last name… He’s fairly sure there’s no relation though.
