Second Base ADP Market Report: 3/23/21

With draft season upon us, it is important to monitor where players are being drafted on a regular basis. Throughout draft season, I have been doing that work for you with regular updates on the Average Draft Position on NFBC up until Opening Day. You can find all the pieces in this series here.

Top 100 Players Falling

Cavan Biggio (-6.4)- Biggio is falling in part due to the concerns of where he will be hitting in the lineup. The signing of Semien means he will likely be hitting sixth instead of second. That being said, the Blue Jays are very right handed and he could find himself higher up against a fair amount of righties and with the team likely playing in Dunedin and having a short right centerfield, means he could get a decent power gain while others struggle with a dead ball. He is triple eligible which makes him even more enticing.

Top 300 Players Rising

Ryan McMahon (+14.56)- See the article in this series on first basemen

Gavin Lux (+21.05)- Lux is rising after recent comments from manager Dave Roberts that Lux will have a big role for the Dodgers this season. He is a former top prospect with power and speed, but the role is uncertain with Justin Turner back and Chris Taylor on the roster. I want to believe in the talent, but the Dodgers are stacked and don’t necessarily have to play him.

Garrett Hampson (+13.01)- Hampson’s rise comes from a few things. First, he has been a player that has caught fire late in seasons which is always tantalizing. Second, the injury to Brendan Rodgers should mean he has a full time role to start the season. The most important thing is that he has been leading off a lot in spring. Hampson has the ability to hit for average, enough pop to play and plenty of speed. He is also double eligible which is always a plus. I am ready to be hurt again.

Ty France (+21.47)- France is on the rise now that he should be in line for a full time role in Seattle. He has also been crushing it in spring, hitting .417 with five home runs in 41 plate appearances. France doesn;t have a sexy profile, but all he has done is hit at every spot. His role seems fairly safe in Seattle, so he is a pretty nice target at his price.

Kolton Wong (+56.66)- Wong continues to rise after signing with the Brewers. Milwaukee is not only a better place to hit, but he is projected to lead off for the Brewers and while they did not run much in 2020, they were seventh in stolen bases in 2020. While his defense is most important to the Brewers, it helps him stay in the lineup and be a compiler for our fantasy teams. His price will continue to rise, but I am here for it.

Top 300 Players Falling

Jonathan Villar (-45.03)- Villar is dropping a lot since signing in New York. He is likely a super utility guy until an injury opens a full time spot for him. He has been a top 30 player in his career and one that burned fantasy owners. He has the ability to be a game changer in fantasy and has gone extremely late in some drafts and could be worth the gamble late if you are looking for speed.

Jake Cronenworth (-52.72)- See the article in this series on first basemen

Jurickson Profar (-49.88)- Profar resigning in San Diego has been the thing that has hurt his value in drafts. He is projected to be a bench bat right now, but with Trent Grisham hurt and Ha-Seong Kim struggling in spring, he could be in line for more at bats than originally thought. The problem is long term, he probably is a bench bat. I am likely fading Profar in drafts rest of the way.

How much stock, if any, should we put in Villar’s awful spring? Normally, I wouldn’t worry about such a small sample, but the K:BB rate is brutal.
