Paul Sporer: I think they should, yes. Bieber, Allen, Bibee, Civale, Quantrill, and then McKenzie will get his spot back when he’s healthy, but that’s still a month away. I trust the rookies for now

Guest: How worried, if at all, are you about Soto’s dip in hitting?

Paul Sporer: A little, but it’s not actionable. I’m not sitting him or anything so I’m just riding it out

Miller Time: Bibee went for $28 FAAB last week ($100 total). How much should I bid on Bryce Miller? And is he worth going nuts over?

Paul Sporer: I’d imagine he should be more in the low-$20s max, though the badass start will certainly push interest. I definitely think he can be a game-changer, too. If your league allows $0 bids, I’d be down to go $25-28 right in that Bibee range

Bob: Vinnie P. or Tellez at 1B ROS?

Paul Sporer: Not a huge split between. I’m a slight lean toward Vinnie

Lowe Down: Why do the Rays sit Josh Lowe vs. righties now? Just showing off?

Paul Sporer: Yeah they’ve just got more talent to cycle in so they are able to sit a guy as good as Lowe vRH, lol

Jason: In a 12 team 5X5 H2H (daily league), would you trade Pfaadt and Bibee for Dustin May?

Paul Sporer: Oh no. I’m not sure I’d trade either for him, tbh

I Used to be Mel Clark: Rest of season, how would you rank Spencer Steer, Christian Bethancourt 베탄코트, and Jared Walsh in an OBP league? I think I lean in the order I listed them, but Bethancourt’s Savant page is dripping in red and I’m just not sure what to make of Walsh’s headaches.

Paul Sporer: Yeah that’s probably my order, tbh. Not a huge split across the trio, but I prefer Steer the most

Wander Wondering: Got offered Cole for Wander in my AL OBP league. My pitching has indeed been terrible, but I think a stud shortstop is more valuable than an ace. Does that makes sense? Maton would replace Wander, Cole would replace Ober or Sears.

Paul Sporer: Definitely a fair offer, but I’m not doing it bc I really like Ober so the SP gain isn’t as big as the SS dropoff in your case. Hold Wander.

Maikel: Any interest in the Maikel Garcia call-up? Think he sticks? KC needs help and he almost broke camp…

Paul Sporer: A liiiiittle if I need some deep lg speed, but that’s probably it right now

WHIP Appeal: Would you be looking to trade Outman? Walk and barrel rates look good, but I worry the K-rate could lead towards some lean weeks or pull the carpet right from under him. Looking to see if I can snag Mullins from the league dodger fan lol. 12 team, H2H, OBP, category.

Paul Sporer: I’m definitely open to a sell high and I’d certainly be good w/a Mullins-Outman deal

RTJ: Albies no stolen base attempts. New strategy or still hurt?

Paul Sporer: I think there is likely some strategy to it to help keep him healthier

I Used to be Mel Clark: Spring Training is long past, but where do you find Pitcher Velocity from spring games? I had trouble finding the info at the time.

Paul Sporer: Might have to select the exact date for it on Savant & hope they have the data from that game

Paul Sporer: It’s definitely Boyd v. Anderson… I’d probably outline their upcoming schedules & decide that way. Skillwise, it’s a toss up IMO

jj: Javy Baez just got his first HR in 101 PA.  He now has a career 167 HR vs 188 BB.

Back-up SS: Should I bother getting A. Rosario to back-up Jorge Mateo in my 12 team 5×5? Between McNeil/Polanco/Rendon/Miranda but need one infielder

Paul Sporer: Mateo has made tangible changes that are worth buying into, but he’s not a lock to stay this good all yr so I’d rather have Rosario than allll those 3B types

Suwinski: ok, Mason’s point about the Z-Contact% is well taken, but if pitchers start consciously throwing him more strikes, won’t those be more hittable pitches than the strikes he’s getting now? he sure seems to be nailing down the plate discipline/pitch recognition part of hitting

Paul Sporer: I mean if they’re just trash zone pitches, sure, but ideally they’d have some command and throw good strikes. It’s no guarantee that Suwinski wouldn’t just send em 400 ft the other way, though. Your pt is well taken

Valuing Bibee and Allen: Do I got after Bibee and L. Allen over berrios/eflin/sale/strahm/gRod?

Paul Sporer: Strahm has done some things so this isn’t an overreaction to last night’s dud, but I prefer both Guardians arms over him

Yuniesky Betancourt: In a draft and hold with biweekly lineup changes (Mon and Fri), what are you doing with Ohtani? I’ve been slotting him at pitcher for all of his starts and at UT for the periods he isn’t starting. Is this the strategy?

Paul Sporer: Yes, that’s exactly where I’m at with him right now

Walter: Paul – I have to dump one of these pitchers in a 12tm QS league, Mason Miller, Kikuchi, P. Sandoval or R. Detmers. Who gets the axe?

Paul Sporer: Jump off the Kikuchi train for that HR rate erases ALL the good he’s done (it started last night)

Paul Sporer: Ty for the kind words! I’d go Bader, Hayes, and then with the pitchers I think we gotta play schedules w/that group as they’re close. Mason Miller likely gets eliminated due to near-non-existent W potential and then line up Keller, Allen, Cobb, and B Miller’s next expected 3-4 starts & pick from there

Paul Sporer: Power down a bit, but nothing actionable… still 3 HR, 4 SB

Bill: Thoughts on Nick Senzel; can he be mixed-league relevant with health ROS?

Paul Sporer: He caaaaaan but we’re not there yet

Guest: I need pitching, trade partner needs hitting. Is Bregman for Joe Ryan a solid deal to help both teams?

Paul Sporer: I love Bregman, but I don’t think that gets it done. If your leaguemate is on board, do it immediately, but I suspect you’ll have to pay a decent bit more

Pedro: Riley Greene isnt going to be all that, is he?  Absurdly low launch angle

Paul Sporer: I mean I’m not ready to say he’s just this guy after 534 PA, but I do think he’s been a bit overrated on the fantasy landscape. I’m not sure there’s enough fantasy juice there to go too crazy over him, especially with his crap team keeping the R/RBI relatively low

Guest: Corbin Carroll is only 2 CF appearances (not starts) from Yahoo eligibility, but how much chance could there be now that he never gets there for health maintenance reasons?

Paul Sporer: Might not even be health maintenance and just that Thomas is a better CF

Braves SS: Any insight on what happens to Grissom when Arcia returns?

Paul Sporer: I assume he goes back down to AAA

jj: Wait Bryce Miller is going for what?  One good game against the A’s trumps his AAA games this season? He was on whose list before yesterday?

Paul Sporer: He was a top 100 prospect, not a complete unknown. He still had an 18% K-BB in AAA and I doubt the 2.3 HR9 was gonna stick so I’m not that worried about his ERA. I think he’s a legit mid-rotation upside arm

Paul Sporer: I’m OK moving on in shallow lgs given the options available, just too many BB

Aaron Nola’s mom: What is your take on my son? I have him in my fantasy league and I want to trade him. Should he return a top bat?

Paul Sporer: Gotta find the right buyer in your league but I could see a world where you get a strong bat in return from someone who still like Nola. It hasn’t been great by any stretch, but I’m not fully out on Nola

Kris Bryant: It’s starting to look more and more like Bryant is a boring 20 HR (at best)/.290 (because Coors) hitter in a garbage line-up with no RBI chances. Sigh.

Paul Sporer: Yeah, I mean that could be it but there is still fantasy value there

Labe, Son Of Nat: 5×5 would you rather have Jermy Pena or Yandy Diaz?

Paul Sporer: If you need the speed, go Pena, but just pure best player has me leaning Diaz even if I don’t think the power is going to hold all year

Ratioh No: Drafted Anderson and Lauer to help control pitching ratios and they’ve been destroying them instead. Hope for a turn around ?

Paul Sporer: Both just kinda look like their old selves which will have runs of streamer viability, but not super trustable overall

Stache Candidates: Does Jake Rogers’s mustache make him a must roster or a stay away? It feels right on the edge of both extremes.

Paul Sporer: More must roster than not because of the stache loool

CKP: I own Andrew Abbott in a deep dynasty. Would you attempt to cash in on the buzz and move him now for RP help  before he gets to GABP and his value tanks or would you hold on and see what happens?

Paul Sporer: If I’m competing this year, I’d cash in

Armadillofury: Hot take – Varland > Pfaadt

Paul Sporer: I love Pfaadt but don’t find that objectionable. Varland has some really intriguing stuff & Minnesota has shown they can get more out of their starters

Greg: Is Desclafani going to sustain his current production, or would you look to sell high on him? 10T H2H cats

Paul Sporer: Not sure you really can sell high. No one is paying big for Tony Disco. That said, I think he remains viable as long as he’s healthy

Underachiever: I’m in a roto league where most players are kept, and I find myself in the position of the Cardinals: last place, despite having good reasons to believe I had an above-average roster. I haven’t had many major injury issues, so I could still turn it around, but … this is a big hole.

How soon do I pull the plug on this? By being the first person to fold, I can easily get injury stashes like Diaz or Hoskins (both unowned), and maximize the return on my rental types.

Paul Sporer: I definitely go until mid-to-late May before making any major decisions like that so I’d give it another 2-3 wks and then give a hard look to standings to see what I’d realistically have to do to get back into contention & how viable it is that I’m able to pull it off

Cliffy: What sort of OF return should Graham Ashcraft get in a trade? Nimmo too much? Esteury Ruiz?

Paul Sporer: Nimmo is in the play. If you need Ruiz’s speed, I get it even though I’m not a huuuge fan

Guest: Last night against the Dodgers was rough, but what do you think of Matt Strahm going forward?

Paul Sporer: Strong 5-and-dive but his bad outings can have outsized impact bc he doesn’t get enough volume to kinda pitch through them and soften the blow

Steve: What’s the case for Wesneski? His underlying numbers just look terrible right now. I know he’s on a bunch of lists for breakout candidates for this year but im just not seeing the potential

Paul Sporer: Well the swing and miss hasn’t been there & that’s a key piece to any breakout. He missed bats last yr & in spring so there was reason to believe they were on the way. I’m sticking w/him, but if the whiff rate doesn’t start improving, I will look elsewhere, especially in shallower formats

HansDog: What’s Nate Pearson’s role at the end of 2023 season?  2024?

Paul Sporer: Late-inning reliever, but not the closer unless something happens to Romano

Paul Sporer: Yeah and there’s some classic slow start stuff that has me giving him some leash, but the pwr outage last yr plus this ugly start has me concerned. I’d prob hold a bit longer, but I can’t blame 10s and 12s looking to move on

Paul Sporer: I’m still on the Phillips train. He just gets so many more Ks and you don’t really want the ball in play, especially in late game situations

Paul Sporer: No I wouldn’t do that. I’m buying into the bounce back by Berrios and it’s too soon for Bryce Miller to bypass him for me

Paul Sporer: Yes, no worse than a team streamer in shallow lgs. Would love to see the swing & miss tune up a bit to have more confidence in just starting him outright, but yeah I’m keeping him rostered even when he isn’t starting for me

Phil: Hey Paul, I’m hoping you can help me mull over my trade options. In a dynasty 12 team 5×5 OPS, QS league w 40 man rosters my SS are Stott and Tovar so I’m looking at an upgrade. The Correa owner is talking offers but I’m way ahead in OPS and hurting in steals and QS. Is moving Giolito  for Correa worth it when I might not benefit at all from his OPS advantage over my guys? The Tommy Edman guy wanted my Devin Williams but saves are a dogfight right now

Paul Sporer: No I think you stand pat there. While Correa is better than Stott & Tovy, your guys fulfill your speed need muuuuuch more and thus are the play for me

Re: Fairbanks: This is why I use the chat. Didn’t even know he was on the IL. Someone in my league dropped 12 FAAB on him last night before the news dropped. So happy I lowered my bid to 3  and lost lol

Paul Sporer: Don’t worry, it juuust happened. The Raynaud’s Disease flared back up and your league mate likely just guessed it would require an IL stint. Justin can collect his dub on Fairbanks bc he was out specifically due to the health. I knew the health risks, but liked the gamble bc his talent is so high. I just gotta stop wishing that consistent injury guys will miraculously find a way to stay healthy, especially relievers

Paul Sporer: Yeah not a bad deal overall, but not the fit for your squad and while it’s early to adhere toooo hard to standings, you can confidently say that Correa is NOT rackin up SBs for you no matter what

jj: Thanks for the info on Miller, I was looked at his Team Rank which is N/A but now realize it is because Seattle’s rankings are not up yet – creates some confusion.  Also thanks for keeping the level head about him vs Berrios, I feel like people want that new thing so much that it blurs the vision a bit.

Paul Sporer: A smidgle (which is a word I made up even though smidge and smidgen are just fine)… he had said he wanted to get away from the swing & miss after selling out last yr, but power is a helluva drug so I imagine he’s finding the tradeoff worth it

CoopDeVille: I know it was joked about above, but are you holding Josh Lowe in a H2H categories format?  I almost dropped him this morning for LaMonte Wade because part time players kill me.  If I didn’t think there was a good chance he becomes a most-of-the-time-maybe still sit against lefties player someday soon I would cut bait.

Paul Sporer: Late Night LaMonte!! I think I’d actually go for Wade. Both are v good and at risk vL, but Wade is playing v all righties and leading off against ’em. I’m OK w/the move

Homechicken: Is B Baty a legit starting option at 3B in a 16 tm league and your thoughts on him ROS?

Paul Sporer: Absolutely. I believe in the bat and he’s on a great team so despite batting lower, he can still deliver solid R/RBI. Definite option in 16s

Salty: What happens next:  Yankees three-game win streak or Baez hitting his 2nd HR of the year?

Mike: At what point do we just give up on TON? Underlying numbers still good, but maybe this is just who he is? My team (12 teamer) is lacking power but he’s not providing much

Paul Sporer: Depends who you’re picking up, but I’m not averse to moving on in shallower leagues. TON is Tyler O’Neill for the uninitiated

Abe Lincoln: For a roto head to head, how would you evaluate the choice of rostering a known quantity who has looked so far in Eduardo Rodriguez vs. taking a chance on the upside of guys like Pfaadt and Bryce Miller?

Paul Sporer: Like jj mentioned earlier, we often get too excited about the shiny new toy and project the high end of their range onto them. Most rookies are going to come up and be average and plenty will be worse. I like going for guys I think can be gamechangers, but not at the expense of established vets who are performing. I’d really look to cut someone besides E-Rod for those 2

Mustin Jason: is Thairo For Real? Say it, then whisper it. Please

Paul Sporer: He’s been great. Obviously the BABIP will come down & he won’t hit .342 but he doesn’t need to in order to be a stud and deliver beyond his draft value. With 4 HR and 9 SB already, it’ll be tough for me not to take an L on him

Paul Sporer: Yeah trade if you can. Smith will deliver much more in the trade market so he’s the one you wanna dangle out there

Counting stats may be rough and y’all talked about the injury concerns, but now’s the time to buy in and if he gets dinged up you can always drop

Paul Sporer: That poop spaghetti is going to your brain… nothing is easy when it comes to him and putting any volume of numbers. I was a huge Senzel believer, but until he actually shows some consistent health, he has to be treated as a sketchy buy in the long-term

Phil (Re: SS): I’m back with a trade offer I’m inclined to pull the trigger on: Graham Ashcraft & Bryce Elder for Tommy Edman. You believe in Ashcraft or are you worried about the K/BB and home park?

Paul Sporer: Ooh I can get behind that given your speed need. I do like Ashcraft and Elder for that matter, but neither is must hold or untradeable. Lock it in!

It’s [Not] April: My hope in players like Machado is like Semien last year. He was the worst hitter in baseball for 2 months and then went nuclear. There was no reason to see a breakout but it happened. Fingers crossed

Paul Sporer: No reason except the lengthy track record of a superstar and 5-6 wks of a downturn isn’t going to change that

Drew: Are you concerned with anything with Taylor Ward under the hood? Worried with this lineup demotion

Paul Sporer: Bit of a power outage and the demotion isn’t great but I’m sticking with him right now
